Prepaid Returns an oversight by Amazon
Hi, I notice that, when a Buyer gives the wrong or a false reason for Return there is no simple way to recover the cost of the Prepaid label they were not entitled to. When trying to issue a partial refund there is no option to recover the label cost because the reason they given indicates it is at the Seller’s expense. Amazon clearly don’t understand Buyer’s select the wrong reason or simply lie, when returning an item. I suspect lying will be on the increase. Any ideas?

Yes, it’s a joke.
However I assume if Amazon are OK with a buyer lying to obtain a free return, that they are also OK with a seller doing the same to get their own money back?

Nor does there seem to be an easy way to recover the cost of prepaid labels when a buyer simply fails to return a previously auto-authorised item after all.

Hi, the return label is only charged after being scanned. We get a lot of power supplies back simply because the Buyer’s do not read anything and buy the wrong part. They are then returned as ‘faulty’ by the Buyer when they are not. It seems that Amazon have not completely thought Prepaid Returns through.

Since Amazon have changed the returns process we have had a 500% increase of returns. Out of these 95% have had the wrong reason stated so we are liable for the returns costs. AMAZON THIS NEEDS SORTING

Since the induction is this policy we have noticed the order is being marked as return yet there is no return. Selecting the wrong reason for return we have noticed the same.

I’m struggling to find whether a prepaid label has been charged for. I had a return 10 days ago but still not received it. Is there a quick way to find out?

Oh they do.
When you return an item the top reasons on the list are things that will get the buyer a free return. The items where the buyer pays postage are all futher down.
This means buyers have an intrinsic bias to select an item from near the top of the list.
On ebay it’s totally different. From what I remember, when you return an item all the reasons where the buyer has pay for the return are at the top of the list and the buyer has to click ‘more’ to reveal other reasons (where the seller pays).
You have to remember Amazon will do everything possible to extract money from us, even when it’s not our fault. Like those dubious ‘returns’ that they charge return fees on, simply because they failed to deliver the product.
So if they can charge you for a label (that you should never have had to pay for in the first place) and they can keep all the profit because it was never used, for them it’s a dream come true.

Our return rate has increased dramatically with no increase in sales since this has been brought in and will get worse, Amazon don’t care about the reason for return this is testing free returns for all amazon orders and seeing how sellers react . We have just increased our prices on Amazon by £1 but are looking at increasing so our goods sold on amazon will be up to £2 more than ones we sell on our website and eBay. Most companies I know have increased prices so this will make Amazon look expensive place to buy (which they don’t want, sellers have a right to earn a living) and we have seen an increase amazon customer buying direct from our websites now.
