Message received - requesting a free sample in return for a great review

Hi all

So I have just this minute received a buyer message stating -

Hello I have heard wonderful things about this product and would like to try it out for myself.Would you be willing to give a free sample in exchange of a great review on your page?

Obviously I shall not take the buyer up on his kind offer. I can see that I am able to leave a ‘free text’ reply and the ‘no response needed’ tab and the ‘report message’ tab.

I was going to press - report message and no response needed

Any thoughts/advice

the naive amazon seller in me says to ‘report message’ but the experienced / conspiracist Amazon seller in me says click ‘no response needed’ and move on just in case the Amazon robot at the end of the message thinks you are sending freebies in order to get reviews !

Update

I decided to go with the ‘report message’ tab after speaking with SS (actually really helpful). It allowed me to select a reason - The buyer has asked to be compensated for their customer review.

I have also got a written response to my case thanking me for my vigilance and confirming it will be passed to the team who investigate buyers activities.

Hopefully that will be the end of it, but if not I have a written record of advice given.

It’s a cheeky request, but I doubt Amazon will take any action, if you report it. The worst would be to tell him not to do it. If Amazon fail to take action when buyers are abusive or dishonest, then this won’t be a big deal to them.

I’ve had that message before.

However they never specified a product they wanted a sample of, that set alarm bells ringing for me - reported the message instantly.

I received a similar message today. I didn’t reply and immediately contacted ASS - that’s Amazon Seller Support by the way LOL - and they advised me to forward the message onto a “spoofing” email address of theirs. I also clicked on “no response needed” to satisfy my account’s health.

Sellers, please don’t give into such offers; it’s not worth it. You’re also advised not to click on any links or attachments present. Here’s some more information about spoofing supplied by Amazon.

I posted a forum about this a week or so ago. The person never actually mentioned the word free but was talking about how they would love to give my product a review to help with sales etc… I just said pretty much if you buy it you can leave a review! Only today, I get another message to say that they bought it but it isn’t up to expectations and they would like a refund. Strange, no order number showing or I can’t any orders from them either. I replied that they would have to do it through their amazon account as all of our products are FBA. My opinion, I think it is a scam!

I’ve had these a few times over the past few years not just in the UK but also in the EU. Same response everytime I chuckle to myself, click the no response needed and move on.
