UK home market, FBA for DE, Tablets with EU plug

Dear all,

Our home marketplace is UK. We sell Tablet PCs, some model would have EU packaging, (e.g. Keyboard layout in German, Spanish or having EU charger plug inside). In order to avoid German VAT, we are only using UK FBA centres for now.

So how would you create the listing for this situation? If I use the drop-down list to chose DE market, and add a new product there, it seems I can’t FBA ship to UK without creating a list in UK as well. Certainly given this is the same ASIN/SKU, product information should be identical except Language type. Then apparently this would break the law since we are not supposed to sale non-UK plug in the UK market?

Any suggestions?

p.s. Is it legal then to sell e.g. USB Charger with EU plug in the UK? or vice versa?

Thanks a lot as always.

You can send these products to a UK FC, but when you create the listing in the UK, just make sure it’s closed and doesn’t get opened.

Amazon has very specific requirements about plugs, and if you end up selling a product with a European plug to a UK customer who was expecting a UK plug, Amazon will block the listing.

If the products have different keyboard layouts, I would think they should be classed as different products, therefore requiring a different EAN/SKU and a different listing. Then you can list on each marketplace and just make sure any listings in the UK are closed and you shouldn’t have a problem shipping to a UK FC.

Yes it is illegal to sell an EU 2-Pin plug appliance with an adapter in the UK , however selling a EU product from the UK to EU customers I’m not sure but to fulfil the product from a UK via Amazon FBA the product must comply with UK plugs and Sockets Regulations ;

Under the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994, it is a criminal offence to place on the market or supply in the UK an appliance which is not fitted with either (i) a UK 3-pin plug, or (ii) a non-UK plug permanently fitted with a UK safety-approved conversion plug. It is not enough, for example, to provide a 3-pin plug adapter or to make the origin of the appliance clear on the product detail page. A loose adapter in the box in which the product is supplied is not sufficient. Possible sanctions for breach are fines and/or imprisonment.
