Toys - Requirement for documaentation
Hi
I have been selling toys on Amazon for several years buying from other retailers occasionally wholesalers and have done so with few problems.
Of recent times I am having reoccurring problems with Amazon requests for documentation such as:
- A third-party test report from a CPSC-accredited lab that shows the product meets ASTM F963-16/17 and CPSIA standards
- A Children’s Product Certificate (CPC).
- A conformity Certificate.
Obtaining such documentation is impossible.
Is Amazon trying to force me out of selling toys?
Why is Amazon asking me and not the creator of the listing to supply these documents?
Is it time for me to get out of toys?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

Those are US documents. Are you selling on amazon.com or to US customers on Amazon.uk?
Under UK law, you as importer and/or retailer are required to have the UK equivalent documents in your possession. Presumably US law is similar and that is why Amazon are asking you for them
And in answer to your last question, Yes, if you are routinely buying from other retailers, because sooner or later Amazon are going to ask you for invoices to prove your purchases come from acceptable sources and other retailers are not acceptable sources

Then all I can say is (as a toy seller of many decades), you have been extremely lucky to have been able to sell by retail arbitrage and get away with it for so long. Retail arbitrage of new goods is not permitted on Amazon; goods should only be purchased from acceptable wholesalers and manufacturers.

It’s not that you can’t buy retail, you can’t buy from retail and sell as new, the items must be sold as ‘used-like new’ unless you get them from the manufacturer or supplier
You should also have the documents for all those items as it is your liability insurance that the initial claim would go to if you were to sell a dangerous / non conforming toy
