Nine seperate orders for a book I only have one copy of! What to do?

I have just received 9 seperate orders for a book I have only one copy of. I most certainly did not have multiple copies listed, but only the one

All the orders are from different people/addresses, and all came through within 1 minute of each other.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what is going on, and suggest what I should do? Many thanks in advance.

What was the book? New or used? Maybe it had been mentioned on radio/TV, etc; or the author had died. That always triggers orders.

Unfortunately Amazon stock figures aren't quite live, there's a lag between order and stock update which can lead to your issue if several people buy at the same moment.

If the book is used you have little option but to cancel eight orders.

If it is new how quickly can you get more stock? Look at when you need to dispatch by and if your supplier can get stock to you (or you collect from them) in time.

Sorry to hear your issue.

I'd be interested to hear how Amazon respond to this, as we've started having multiple purchases from one unit, which we thought was technically impossible and had the issue arise again over the weekend.

i would suggest to mark them as dispatched and make refunds - do not cancel them as you will face possible account blockage due to high cancellation

Is that right?

I've sold numerous 'suddenly popular' books and discs over the years but have never had multiple orders when there is an inventory of only one.

I was going to ask if you definitely had only one copy listed in your inventory but I just realised this thread is four days old.

Did you get it resolved?

I suppose that I could have accidentally pressed 1 twice when listing the book

To be fair, it is quite easy to do that when listing a lot of things in a short time period.

It's a good idea to periodically sort inventory by the 'Available' column to check for anomalies of this kind.

You were probably lucky to get as many as five understanding buyers to cancel their orders. Hopefully you won't get any negs and your ODR isn't too badly affected
