Bill of Lading same as tracking number?
I keep asking my carrier for a bill of lading number and she keeps sending me a tarcking number. I’m new. Are these the same things or different?

For tracking freight, it’s usually a PRO#, which is different from the BOL.

Who is your carrier? ODFL will provide a PRO# but no BOL # on their Internet Straight Bill of Lading.
Legally, a Bill of Lading Number is not required, all that is legally required are the names and addresses of the shippers and receivers, shipment date, quantity, exact weight, and freight classification. A BOL can have additional information dependent on the carrier/shipper. A straight Bill of Lading means that the freight has been ‘Prepaid’ by the shipper. Negotiable means that the freight can be transferred to another carrier, an Open Bill of Lading means that the consignee can be altered after shipping, a Bearer Bill of Lading means that the bearer of the BOL is the only one able to take consignment.
Why would you need the Bill of Lading Number?
