Question regarding compliance and Declaration of Conformity

Hi everyone, I'm trying to list my first product in Toys in the UK but I have a few questions about compliance.

1) Since I'm selling toys, I need a CE mark but my manufacturer can't provide me an EU Declaration of Conformity. I'm planning on finding a testing lab and creating a DoC myself. On the DoC, it needs the business name and address included. But I am an individual seller without a company, can I just use my own name and home address?

2) The DoC also requires the product's ID like the UPC barcode, but I'm going to apply for a GTIN exemption meaning my product won't have a UPC barcode. How else can I identify my product in the DoC? Can I just use a picture?

Much appreciated for any help

If your sales are over £1000 a year, then you are a business and need to register with HMRC as one.

You need to do all your homework first. It's one thing to get guidance from a forum, but it's only a start. You are responsible for making sure the toys are up to UKCA standards and absolutely safe. The last thing you want on your conscience is a child injured or worse due to a toy that hasn't had the appropriate tests, or the penalties from not following the regulations to the letter. No shortcuts.

1. Listing in toys is a sticky situation on amazon and as such before you go down the route of getting the toys tested and marked and the ce branding you need to really read through Amazon Seller university to ensure your going to be able to sell them on here.

2. You are a business as you are buying to sell on therefore you need to register as a business or sole trader with HMRC that should then sort out what you include in the document.

3. as this is a genric toy presumably from far east if you dont have a ce marking you might be better of creating your own branding and applying for a upc barcode for the item.

Finally and not being harsh but unless this is the next big thing then bringing toys in getting them certified creating your own asin then trying to get it seen without a massive amount of advertising spending is going to be a costly business do you research before commiting to importing the items
