Returns for Supplements (seller-fulfilled)

Hi Everyone,

I am a new seller so sorry if this is a silly question!

I'm selling dietary food supplements, and want a returns policy where if the product is opened (seal broken) then I want to no accept returns. Is this possible? I'm not sure how to communicate this with buyers and/or if this is even possible!

Many thanks

your returns policy cannot be weaker than the Amaxon returns policy. Locate it and use that for reference.

Basically you can't communicate that and as below your return policy has to at least match amazons.

Now for supplements - the listings page states 'you can return the item for any reason in new and unused condition'

As a standard you will fall under amazons prepaid return label scheme anyway (though you can recuse yourself from this if you wish by contacting seller support).

Should you remain in the prepaid label scheme, All refunds within policy would therefore be approved and a return label supplied. The customer will then be refunded on first scan.

Should you get any returns not in a new or unused condition, you can then open a safe-t claim.

As others have said it is a major risk selling on Amazon, as very many Amazon Customers think they are always right and they can do anything they feel like, as Amazon Customer Services usually gives into anything required.

That includes sending back damaged items, used items, in your case eating all the suppliments, and still wanting a refund, etc.

Buyers will often give a reason to obtain a free postage refund as well, at your cost. Amazon give an automated returns postage label at your cost, so if any issue, you need to action a Safe-T Claim, which takes more time than it is worth for low priced items, but Amazon will often give you 20% to 25% back.

You need to add enough profit to cover losses, like shops have to do with deliberate theft (aka shop-lifting).

Being a food-stuff, also ensure you have all safety documents, as a lot of legal stuff around such things. Amazon ask to see them sometimes and have enough Public Liability insurance, so if someone dies with an allergy, you are covered.

To try and stop returns: I would incude a small slip of paper around each pot, so that cannot be missed, and show something like: We wish all our customers to be happy with our Suppliments. Please read the details on the packaging, any query please contact us via Amazon Messaging before use. For safety: Unwanted returns MUST be in sealed containers, opened containers cannot be returned for refund.

Unfortunately not, anything can be returned for refund even a different item, you need to remember on Amazon there is only the customer, nobody else has a standing and whatever the customer does or says is what goes. You will have to factor this into your margins as it is fact of life on Amazon.

In short: NO

Full refund is granted for item return, no matter that supplement is no longer sellable as it has been opened.

Lots of Amazon customers are just testing different supplements and return them after a week or so with "doesn't agree with me" comment. Some others expect miracles after just 1 week of supplementation and will return with "not as described" comment, especially if you promised effectiveness but forgot to mention that couple of months are needed to see the results.

So you have to include this "risk free purchase" approach from customers in your profit calculation. You can find typical return rates for category in Growth > Marketplace Product Guidance > Category Insights - select UK, HPC category and then subcategories and you will see return ratio % below the graphs.

No, you just have to add this policy when calculating you price
