Read onlywe are looking to offer a 12 month (free of charge replacement) warranty against defect of a product. In order to facilitate the warranty, does Amz ToS permit customer email opt-in to register the warranty with us direct?
I wanted to put a product packaging insert with a warranty card requesting email opt-in for registering the warranty.
Sure, no problem. But remember that using that email for anything other than dealing with warranty claims would be illegal - not against Amazon rules but actually ILLEGAL unless you state that is why you are requesting the email address.
GDPR prohibits use of data for any reason other than that stated when collected and the fines can be very significant.
So if you are looking to do it so that you can administer your returns program, fine. If you are doing it with the hope of getting email addresses to market to, then no, that is not okay.
To clarify, I would never send that kind of request through Amazon messaging. It would be on a product insert that provides the warranty registration and opt-in option.
under Consumer law if a product is faulty within 12 months you should be either repairing or replacing anyway.
So this is in fact pointless. Maybe you can do extended 3year warrenty.
I have an idea to add value to the products customers purchase from me that will also help brand awareness in another way…
I am considering including a 2 sided product insert as follows:
Side1: Offers the chance to win/be paid £x for posting picture of the product on Instagram
Side2: Free Ebook download by scanning QR code which directs user to Google Drive download link for a surprise free bonus
I will not be driving traffic away from the Amazon sales process as I do not sell my product anywhere else. My hope is that if people like my product they will gladly post it on Instagram and let people know where they purchased it from - so bringing more potential customers to my Amazon listing.
When posting their picture on Instagram to qualify for the competition entry the user would have to tag @brandname so that I could enter them into the draw.
The free surprise bonus Ebook download would be related to the product that was purchased and would be a way of adding that extra bit of value by way of a ‘thank you for purchasing our product’ free gift. Again I will not be directing them into any sales process or offer/website/email request - it will simply be a download link.
Can anyone see any problems with that…?
