Customer return damaged. Disposed of

Hello all

Just looking for some advice. Customer return arrived broken and damaged in the post, return was change of mind and was sent working fine. I refused to refund the customer and advised they claim with royal mail and mentioned they would need to arrange collection or I can dispose of it. That was roughly 22 days ago. I sent a final reminder around 10 days ago if no collection is arrange we would dispose of it.

No response either and I know the customer is seeing the emails as they initially left negative feedback in response to me not refunding.

I have since disposed of it and the customer has messaged today to request return details. Have I allowed enough time? Can I defend a claim if the buyer opened one?

Thanks

Doubtful, the best you can get is if Amazon fund themselves.

Hopefully you’ve take photos or got proof of damage to help defend any case opened.

Hopefully you took photos of the returned item and damage ? - personally I don’t think it was a good idea to dispose of it until the matter was cleared up, as you now have no proof.

Disposing of a customer return was a really bad idea. Now the buyer lost both the payment and the item.

Your only option is to hope that Amazon will fund a possible claim. Because you can’t simply take both the damaged item and payment.

Thanks for the replies. Yes we took multiple photos of all damage and sent these along with the first email to the customer.

We waited roughly 22 days so personally believe this is a fair amount of time to allow.

should not have disposed of if your going to dispose of a item i would have put it in writing along with pictures of the damaged item sent it signed so you had proof they it had been given notice and allowed 6 weeks for a reply stating it would be disposed if collection or a cost to return was not arranged or to sign and return if ok to dispose personal i would have set a disposal fee as well just to kick their ass into getting a reply amazon does this themselfs and charge for the disposal if you dont arrange a return of damaged goods

or if it was not to much i would have just sent it back to them to save the hassle i done this a few times when it was only 2-3 pound to return as others have said you have left them out of pocket and if they filed a claim with rm you may have now lost it for them as they have no proof of the damage or the item should rm request it
