Amazon price fixing
Anyone else notices that Amazon try and drive prices down by listing offers on item pages that are temporarily out of stock but they end up saying this for months on end only to then disappear off the listing and lead the buy box to disappear. They know what they are doing and this is surely illegal?

I’m not a lawyer but I am guessing it isn’t. Morally corrupt and serious abuse of power, yes in my opinion.

This happens all the time in the book category - Amazon give themselves the Buy Box for a supposedly new book, that is long out of print, and saying Currently unavailable, and giving the impression that there are no others available, when we do have copies listed.

Its just another of their “we control your business” tactics.
I always thought it was done to keep the prices at the bottom end of a sellers High/Low prices when using automated pricing tools, i know when i used one, we always turned on the rule “Do Not Compete with Amazon”

we had a product we were selling quite happily on amazon at £12.99
listing was blocked as they said the competitive price was £8.99
(which was an off-amazon price)
found the retailer concerned - who offered it only as a click and collect from their stores with a £4.99 delivery fee to pay. so £8.99+4.99 = £13.98

this is called a loss leader the supermarkets do it. There is no law about selling things for a loss

I have found this too. I have noticed that Amazon are linking their prices to other retailers such as Argos and Very. Amazon do this because their philosophy is to have the lowest price even if they lose money. I have found that it still linked when Argos and Very are clearing stock which is out of stock so Amazon would be losing money because the wholesale prices are higher.

Seen this many times . Legal or not , it’s Amazon against small seller like us . We are sure to lose in the end .
