Amazon de-activated a lisint as being over-priced even tough it was £70 cheaper than a listing by another seller.

I tried to list a rare book on Amazon for £43. Amazon de-activated the listing ' due to potential high pricing error '. But another copy of the same book is for sale by a different seller for £115.77. I have tried getting Amazon support to explain this but their explanation made no sense at all. Has anyone got any idea what I can do about this? Many thanks.

Sorry, the spelling in the heading has 2 errors - it should say LISTING, and not lisint, and also it should say THOUGH, and not tough

Do what most booksellers do - sell it elsewhere. There are better alternatives to Amazon.

I know nothing about books or their selling challenges on Amazon. My thoughts are:

a) ignore the other seller

b) did you list it as New? If so, is your price higher than the RRP?

Happens often in the book category, I know as a bookseller, and it is never explained why another seller doesn't have their offer deactivated. As @Seller_FQHkqHJI5SqTh says, sell elsewhere. I also sell on Ebay, but there are other sites for rarer books too.

Hi RealBargainsUK,

Relist it as "Collectable"...

You don't mention whether there were other offers priced below yours...

Amazon say they do price comparisons across the internet so you're not just being compared to Amazon listings...

All Best

It is irritating to say the least that Amazon allow grossly over-priced books that don't exist (cf Mersea, Clipdeal, Walton, et al) to be listed but de-list a real book as allegedly over-priced. No point in challenging the decision - that way madness lies. Just list it on another site & save your sanity.

No offence taken. BTW, you can use emojis if you use a mobile device, 🤣

By ignoring the other seller, I meant, worry about your problem rather than asking “why is the other seller allowed to sell and I’m not”

And I mentioned RRP as this is probably what Amazon’s bots are comparing the OPs price to. As Amazon is unable to distinguish between in-print and out-of-print books, I guess listing as Collectable is the only way to avoid the error.

Good Evening @Seller_bE8avrTsDoNhF,

I wanted to reach out to you as I have gone ahead and escalated CASE ID ending in 0312 to one of our internal teams to review regarding the high pricing message you are receiving . While I cannot guarantee the outcome of the case will change, it does not hurt to get a second pair of eyes to review the case.

I will reach back out to you as soon as I hear back from them. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Sincerely, Cooper_Amazon

It is not just books.

Amazon tries to manipulate across the board. I quite understand that price gouging is reprehensible BUT the customer does not have to buy.

My pet hate is that Amazon is forever telling me that my sales price in mainland Europe is higher than the UK product listing. Not that it is of any business to Amazon but my costs are higher selling in the EU - compliance costs, shipping costs, currency conversion costs, return rates ..etc.

Shame they cant just concentrate on "policing" customer abuse.
