Unbelievable...RM postie scanned then take parcel
Why on earth a postie scanned my customer’s parcel, tossed it on the doorstep and left… then a few minutes later he came back and took the parcel with him?! It is the same size package in the mailing bag I sent to the correct address.
Tracking says delivered with an image of an item under the doormat.
The customer contacted to say she hasn’t got it - She has cameras and the video evidence shows what he has done (as above). I’m baffled.
Really hard to contact RM and I have no idea who is my RM business account manager, haven’t seen him for 3 years.

This needs reporting to RM and possibly the police if she has video evidence.

You can contact Royal Mail via their email uploading the video evidence. Royal Mail have also setup wesbite where you can report crime against Royal Mail, again you can upload information. On the forum they do not allow sellers to post email addressses otherwise would be happy to give you the email address.
We have noticed an increase in buyers providing incomplete names or even false names. Claiming they havent received their order and not responding to any communication. We have asked Royal Mail to check the buyer identity.
If you go to google type report a crime against Royal Mail, the link will be on the first page.

Did the postie ring the bell or knock on the door when they left it on the step? They may have put it down, left it to see if someone was going to answer while they delivered to other houses nearby, then took it back to take back to the depot when there was no answer.
If so, it’s pretty bad, but at least better than theft.

The posty could of scanned and put it on the step and as he’s walked away maby thought hmmmm i probably shouldn’t leave it here i’ll take it back and deliver next day. Did this only happen this morning? He might re-deliver it tomorrow. Give the posty a chance don’t just assume theft.

How about the postie scanned it, left it, then bumped into a neighbour, mentioned the parcel and they said they would take it in ?

As a rule - work on the basis that your Royal Mail postman is not a thief stealing random parcels. Why would they? Postmen and women are more than aware of cameras etc, and the idea they may wish to steal some random package, contents unknown, which they would have to conceal back at the depot and smuggle out to their car etc. is of course stretching credibility.
As mentioned by others, and that we have seen, is the postman puts the parcel down photos and then the door is not answered and they have to take back. There are those that may criticise the postman, but these are the people who deliver daily, I’m guessing it must be easy to expect ‘Doris’ to be in because she always is, but on this one day … etc etc…
Customers on the other hand are quick to blame, and sometimes economical with the truth. For example the ‘I was in all day and nobody called’ or “that’s not my front door”, or “that’s not my feet in the picture”
I prefer to believe that the Royal Mail postman are doing their best. It preserves my sanity.

Given the amount of unscanned parcels, if a postie wanted to steal, would it not be better to just ‘lose’ the parcel before scanning it rather than take it back off the doorstep after scanning it?

Seems like theft to me.
at the moment , at my local sorting office , i have been told that they have a round 45 new staff agency staff that have been bought in to clear the back log ,
i think its inevitable that you will get a few dodgy people

On a more general note, this whole delivery issue illustrates just how ill-equipped we still are as a country for online/mail order sales.
Millions of people live in flats and houses that have no safe spaces or storage areas. Many have letterboxes that can’t accept anything bigger than a postcard without bending it. Deliveries normally take place during the day when often no one is at home.
Then there are blocks of flats that have umpteen floors (one on the Isle of Dogs has 72 , I believe) and lifts that don’t always work.
With housing stock and infrastructure like that, it’s not surprising sellers get so many INRs…
