Where can buyers request "ship in an Amazon box"?
Hi,
I’ve been selling on FBA for years. Recently I have more complaints from buyers because items were not shipped in Amazon standard smiley shipping boxes. They were shipped bare as SIOC, Ship In Own Container, causing severe damages to the items. I tried to ask Amazon many times to put the item in the standard smiley box before shipping out like they used to do but they refused If you know how to get out of this SIOC nightmare, please let me know.
From google research, I discovered that buyers could request the item to be shipped in an Amazon box. I’ve been an Amazon buyer even longer than seller but never seen that option. Where is it? So I could create an extra image to advise the buyers to request to ship in an Amazon smiley box to prevent the shipping damage.
Thank you,

- When one goes through the checkout process ...
- Down under where you can select what day the item will be delivered
- At the bottom of this block section there will be a choice box to select to put item in an Amazon box if the item ships in it's own normal packaging.
It only appears for items that would ship in their own normal packaging. We have used it.

It would be a better path to beef up your packaging to handle shipping.
I cannot imagine buying from a listing that wants me to take extra effort to receive the product safely.

This is true. Amazon requires products to be packed to survive the “Three foot drop test” at any angle onto concrete before Billy in the warehouse puts it in Amazon packaging (or not) to ship it out. There is also the “Run it over with a robotic forklift” test and the the “Catapult it out of the delivery van (Rivian or otherwise) onto your porch.” test. Passing the latter two is optional. The first one is not.

I created a thread about this a couple weeks ago. I think it is certain fulfillment centers that are doing this, not all of them. Photos attached.

Is it literally a box, or is it Amazon packaging which could be any packaging, padded envelope or box.
I have seen some pretty poor packing in boxes, so I don’t think that is your solution. The best is to pack it like it can survive shipping on its own, regardless of the shipping container.

Be aware that even if they put it in an Amazon box, it will be shipped with whatever else the customer purchased, even a pair of 15 lb handweights or a bowling ball.

It costs Amazon money to ship in their own box - so where is Amazon’s incentive if the product is not sold by Amazon (in direct competition with us)?
Be careful what you wish for - Amazon may start charging a fee to FBA users for shipping in an Amazon logoed box.
Better to take other’s advice and package your FBA items shipping ready. Or stop using FBA.

Amazon once sent me a 12" long breaker bar in an 18" x 18" x 36" box with no filler. I’m not sure having customers request an Amazon box will provide additional protection during shipping.

It is up to us as sellers to package our items so they will arrive at the customer’s mail box in good shape. If you are having a consistent issue with your product being damaged in shipping, then it is up to you to upgrade your container so it makes it.
It only makes sense to be proactive. It is your responsibility to send your product to a fulfillment center ready to ship. Common sense.

Wow, Customers now complaining that the item was not shipping in Amazon smiley face box?
As if we need another reason for customers to find a loophole to “SCAM” I mean negatively impact seller performance.
