Royal Mail delivery scans are not correct/accurate
So like many other sellers I am sure we have all had customers who say they not received an item when the tracking says delivered. We know there is no protection from Amazon and so end up refunding the buyer and thinking it a buyer scam.
However today I have been on the opposite side. RM delivered a parcel at 11:22 today. It was special delivery and it fitted through my letter box and it was for someone else at my address. I fetched parcel but on returning saw I had a text saying a parcel for me was now delivered. I assumed my parcel was left on step as it would not fit through letterbox so I went and looked but nothing was there. So I checked the tracking on Royal Mail website and it showed my parcel being delivered at 10:20 with gps cords at my house.
I then checked my Ring doorbell cam. There was no delivery at 10:20. Only once had it recorded anything today and that was the 11:22 delivery and the video clearly showed the person was only carrying the small item for someone else that fitted through letter box - they had no box with my parcel.
So I now have tracking showing that my parcel was delivered at 10:20 (when it wasn’t) and a text received at 11:22 saying my parcel was delivered (when it was actually a parcel for someone else so I would not have been notified anyway).
What is going on? If we can’t trust the scans and tracking information by Royal Mail then it just shows that perhaps it’s not always a scam buyer when they say parcel not received.

I have seen it in the past when they have marked an item as delivered but not actually delivered it. They then deliver it later in the day or later in the week.
Sometimes they have delivered it to the wrong address that happens a fair bit.
Also a special delivery shouldn't be pushed through a letterbox they are supposed to have signatures.
It is not unique to Royal mail. I have known DPD to mark a parcel as delivered then deliver it later in the day.
You can't 100% trust the delivery scans but in combination with GPS and delivery photos it should prove where the item was delivered.

I agree with @Seller_d8YGbIjNqwFxn, not just Royal Mail. Last week I had a shipment to go to Amazon FBA and booked a collection from DPD. I was standing on the pavement by the side of the road with 3 big boxes weighing 15kg each, and the driver pulled up, totally ignored me, turned the van and drove off. He clearly wanted his GPS tracker to show he had been in the area, but couldnt be bothered lifting my boxes into the van. I think it is not the company, but down to the individuals they employ combined with the model they are all forced to follow based on targets of number of parcels I think.

I have had a few times in the past year and once my favourite postwoman delivered a parcell that was meant for someone else, I didn't notice immediately as I get quite a few parcels (mostly returns from Amazon) and gave it to her next day. I imagine that person had the delivery notification for the parcel I received. Also many delivery photos are not clear or don't prove anything. Recently, I had to refund an order that had a photo of a tree as proof of delivery.
