Plummeting sales since Dec 21

Morning everyone, would appreciate your advice please. Our (biodegradable cat litter-tray liner) sales have plummeted since late December 21. Does anyone have any similar experience? It’s our first full 12-month’s Amazon selling.

Started Jan 21, UK sales only, ASIN B091Q5PMPK is just one of multiple variations. Sales built up to approx 20 orders per day by April. Some sporadic advertising helped us achieve around 35 some days.

We thought the recent drop in sales may be due to customers waiting for Jan 22 pay day. However, Feb is here already and just 3 orders today, 2 yesterday. It’s been this way for 6 weeks now.

It really isn’t unusual for sales to drop off during the new year.
I would imagine, that with this kind of thing, a lot where bought as presents. New pets and so on for Christmas.
How does it compare to the same period last year?

I didn’t realise these liners are so expensive, the last pack I bought in a shop were way cheaper.

Although you appear in the top 25, the top sellers are all Prime and these days buyers seem to want stuff the next day particularly if they’re a similar price. Perhaps consider Prime if that’s worth it?

The below is your sales ranking and price history since the listing began.

Just based on that, you can see that sales have dropped off in comparison to other sellers, a few times throughout the year. Notably in October and back in July.
I really don’t think there is much to be concerned with here, it’s pretty much comparable otherwise. With the expected dip for New Year.

In addition to what #Neil has highlighted - I thought I’d take a look at your listing.

Having looked at your listing - and like #CatKat mentioned - they’re expensive. I’m not doubting the quality of the product - and therefore the price fits - but I don’t think the listing shouts quality/premium product e.g. real-life cats would be nicer to see and more relatable - if you can get the customer to say awww what a cute little pussy - you’re stepping in the right direction of engagement. A few more images wouldn’t hurt either - you’re only using a few.

Images could do with a spruce up - infographics could be improved e.g. font is very small and taking into account most sales are done on mobile nowadays people want to be able to read the font without having to expand the image.

No A+ either - you should be exploiting this.

Lastly - there’s a scathing 1* regarding the biodegradable properties … if the reviewer is talking nonsense (which quite often they are) then I would get this across in your listing.

Probably a good time to update your listing whilst sales are quiet.

Good luck

PS - apart from the emojis (or whatever you call them) the bullet points are good and relatable to a cat owner

I’m still in my first 12 months. I saw sales drop to almost zero at around 21 December, and they remained low through most of January. Things are starting to pick up. Not sure if that’s just how things go, but personally, my household doesn’t buy much at this time.

It could just be lower demand. People are cutting down on little luxuries at the moment due to the current inflation and energy problems. I would imagine posh litter liners would be one of the first things to go on anybody’s budgeting plan.

That being said, when I looked up the ASIN, it was showing the most expensive variation with the highest price, and I had to click on it to see the cheaper variations.

It’s probably a combination of factors. I’d work on the photo and make the product packaging a little more professional, as the current packaging looks a little handmade-ish. I’d also experiment with out-of stocking that expensive variant, forcing sales of the cheaper ones to see if that improves the search result price point.

In the past Jan would always have been good sales on Amazon this year however it has not only been my worst Jan sales but my worst sales ever even when I started on Amazon in 2008 I was selling more than I am now. Amazon is now my weakest sales channel and is the channel with the most high manteince.

We’ve experienced a significant drop this year so far…so much so that it has me worried. However, I have spoken to a few ecommerce businesses and they’ve all noticed the same.

We finished January about 25% down on last January but it took us longer to get our FBA listings stocked up due to staff being off with covid, etc. So far we are about 30% down on the same 4 days of February last year although last February was a record month for us.
