Packaging advice for UK seller wanting to sell in EU
Dear Sellers
We have been selling in the UK for a little while and would like to try selling in a couple of EU countries. We think we will use multi country inventory first rather than PAN EU FBA.
Our product is not food based or electrical so no specific packaging requirements however having searched the internet and the forum we are a little confused on the following:
- Are there any specific EU packaging laws to be aware of that we need to include on our packaging. I’ve read about an EC REP for example?
- Is it mandatory that the outer box and / or instructions are translated into local languages?
- I think we can just use our existing ASINs, list in the other countries and translate the country specific listings. Is this accurate?
Many thanks for your assistance in advance !

I’m not sure what multi-country inventory is? You either ship goods to one of more countries and then use FBA EFN or you go PanEU and store and move goods around all 6 European fulfilment countries.
Almost certainly but it will depend on what products you are selling.
Mandatory? No probably not as long as there aren’t required safety warnings or similar. You will need to have an EU address included for any goods requiring certification.
Providing the goods (and packaging) are identical, yes. However if there is any variation due to the answers above then they should be a different SKU-EAN-ASIN

I would also be wary of the costs and time associated with EU VAT registration and then ongoing filing and reporting. This additional cost will very soon eat in to profit margins unless you are selling a decent volume of product to justify this expenditure.

Have you thought of just testing the market by using the BIL tool instead and fulfilling EU orders yourself?
You are then listed on all the EU sites but without the headache of having to register for VAT in any EU country as your stock is stored in the UK.
If sales take off - then and only then consider using PAN EU etc.
