Returnless refunds. How to stop them please

Hi
A customer wanted to return an item. I autharised the return. The next day Amazon refunded him. I cantacted the customer and he said Amazon told him ti bin the item.
This is wrong.
I have looked and I cant see how to stop this happening again. I have looked at the “returnless refund” And there are no settings or rules I can see there.
How

Are we talking FBA here? The ‘Small and Light’ program by any chance?

I’d write to Amazon that if they like to fund thieves & scammers, or even let honest buyers keep the goods, that’s up to them but they do it with Amazon’s money, not mine, so please refund my account right now.

Do you mean on the “Return settings” on your account?

When you sign up to use FBA one of the terms is Amazon customer has the sole discretion if determining customer returns, refunds and any adjustments.

So for example the customer contacts Amazon customer services saying the product is faulty, damaged or defective. At Amazon Customer sole discretion they can refund the order without having the order returned. Also there are a limited number of times the customer can make such a claims.

Also applies to customers who initiate a return request but does not return the order. The return request stays open.

If Seller Fulfilled Prime you need to open a SAFE-T claim to be refunded.

On the subject of returns beware of customers who randomly place orders to just return them at the seller expense. They want a free delivery and a free return. This started around two years ago.
