FBA Capacity Limit Issues

In August, I sent 2 capacity limit increase requests which weren't responded to and expired despite bidding above what I normally do (for over a year) with no previous issues. I currently have over the capacity limit which Amazon is forecasting for next month and I cannot send any more requests for September. I have submitted another request for October which I hope is answered but I have no idea at this point. I would love to send in more inventory for Christmas which is where most of my sales happen but I am concerned I will have to pay extra storage fees for my current stock and/or Amazon will block attempts to send more stock in. Can any other sellers or Amazon representatives help at all? Anything would be much appreciated.

have you seen the prices for storage they ahve granted last month - 12 to 15 pounds for clothing and 3 pounds for normal so if your bid isnt near those numbers you wont get any more space. those numbers are 3 times what they were last year!

We've also had a massive cuts in capacity without any obvious reasoning.

  • December 2023: 550cft
  • December 2024: 330cft
  • March 2025: 330ft
  • July 2025: 310cft
  • August 2025: 160cft
  • September 2025: 107cft
  • Forecast 100, 100cft

Account health is all in the green, IPI is around 700, sales are as steady as they were a year ago, Inventory utilisation is less than 5 months of stock, etc... etc...

Our normal utilisation has always hovered around 120-150cft so we're now utilizing 150cft, but with a limit of 107cft, and will be unable to replenish stock.

150cft equates to just around 19 weeks of stock, so the new limits of 100 equates to a about 12 weeks of stock at best.

__________________________________________________________________

They clearly don't want stock in the warehouses anymore (or only want it if you're willing to pay much more than the usual storage fees)

__________________________________________________________________

The only other thing we've noticed is that the IPI algorithm has started to chip-away a little.

We're usually at 700'ish, with +/- a few points each week. But for the past few weeks it's dipped negatively each time, but still at 683

Just to update...

Regardless of what the email said, and what the capacity monitor was showing on the 31st of August.

Our capacity limit for September is actually now showing higher than both. The email and monitor both showed 107cft for September, but we now appear to have 157cft when checking the Capacity Monitor.

They still show only 100cft for October onwards, so the problem clearly isn't going away, but it seems to be either 'scare-tactics' to try and generate income from extra capacity fees, or (just as likely) an automated system-error.

We haven't requested an increase, or placed any bids, etc...

Either way, it's still impossible to run a business when you don't know where you stand every few weeks.

We've been able to create shipments, utilising the newly-appeared capacity allowance.

Still no idea what will happen at the end of the month though, or if the same thing will happen again.

The 7cft that we currently have useable might simply be the difference between what we had on the 1st, minus the shipments that have been marked as completed, and stock that has sold, since then.

We all know there's no point asking seller support, so we're just adapting to the chaos (as usual).

Update on my earlier post:

So, via the monthly emails....

  • December 2023: 550cft
  • December 2024: 330cft (40% drop)
  • July 2025: 310cft
  • August 2025: 160cft
  • September 2025: 107cft*
  • October 2025: 100cft?

* - In September, our dashboard limit was actually upped to 157cft, without any bidding or requesting an increase.

? - October email (and dashboard) now shows 100cft, so we've no idea if that's what it will really be, or not.

Either way, it's been slashed. It's now 82% lower than December 2023, and 70% lower than December 2024

We're now in the position that we can't send any more stock until we've sold almost a third of what we already have at FBA. Based on typical sales, that means we're now capped at 12 weeks worth of stock.

The IPI (Storage utilisation ratio) still seems to show that up to 22 weeks is fine (and that's what we're currently using), but they're simply not allowing that amount of stock to be stored anymore.

So the, Amazon, logic (for us) now seems to be a maximum of 8 weeks in stock, plus 4 weeks of stock in transit (as the shipments can remain open for up to a month, and we can't refill that space until they close them, even if the stock has already sold).

It's a good job we don't sell festive items, as we probably now can't send anything at all until December.

__________

The usual Amazon anti-logic also applies though, and we're still also receiving the daily 'expansion' calls, emails, and prompts, wanting us to convert more of our stock to FBA

10
user profile
Seller_fMsCVAHNu4txH

And.... Another update....

  • December 2023: 550cft
  • December 2024: 330cft (40% drop)
  • July 2025: 310cft
  • August 2025: 160cft
  • September 2025: 107cft (Really 157cft)
  • October 2025: 100cft? (Really 152cft)

Seems like every month they threaten to drop the limit extremely low, and every month they go ahead and do that on the 1st, then lift it again about a week later.
