VAT Registration in the UK
Hello guys,
I have recently launched my first product on Amazon CO.UK however, my account was deactivated as no VAT number was informed. Can I as an individual that sells on Amazon register for VAT or do I need to officially register/open a business in my country of residence (Rep. of Ireland) in order to register for VAT in the UK? I am so lost with all these regulations and would VERY much appreciate any input you may have.
Thank you in advance.
Amanda

You should be registered as a business on Amazon if you are buying or making goods to sell for a profit. You need to be registered either in Ireland or UK for tax purposes.
You need to be UK vat registered because you have sent stock here which is what has triggered the requirement.

I presume you have sent stock into UK amazon warehouses ?

Yes, I have. I have been stocking in the Amazon Warehouse for a couple of months.

Then you should have been UK VAT registered before your stock even arrived in uK.
Contact HMRC and you can get VAT registered.

Will do. For the VAT set up do I need to have registered a business? Because up to now, I am just an individual selling on Amazon as a side earning.
Appreciate your help.

When you say Individual, do you mean the Individual Account as opposed to a Business Account (the legal entity), or do you mean Individual Selling Plan as opposed to the Professional Selling Plan where you pay £30 a month fee ?
As above reply, you need to be a registered Business seller.

That clarifies my question. Thank you very much.
