Second hand Books gating & requiring approval
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else as noticed lately when sourcing books quite a few seem to be gated these days and requiring an invoice?
I’ve been sourcing books over the past few weeks and I’m noticing that quite a few books when I try scan them in the publisher/brand is gated. Never known it to be this bad
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

Hi this has been happening for months with certain publishers and as with second hand books your not going to have an invoice which is required to sell the book

There must be at least 10 threads currently on this subject. It has been going on for quite a few years.
Various mods have come on this board promising help but nothing ever seems to be done.
I think it is scandalous.
If you add on the other issue of suspending book listings because they are "priced too high" there must be hundreds of thousands of books in total suspended for no good reason.

I honestly now believe this is an In House problem
whether by design or accident it is just being ignored
Yet some sellers can list without any problems !

I've currently an order pending that highlights how careful you have to be when listing.
The image and volume are correct, the title's the title of a different volume.
Luckily I have both volumes IF i can contact the buyer and clarify which they want.

I checked out their web site AKA WW Norton and Company They make clear their books are aimed at over 13's They may have links on the site to 3rd parties but they do not have any affiliation with 3rd parties !
So who exactly are A saying is their Brand Administrator when the company is saying it is an Independent company and has been since it was first established

Exactly how can we be expected to go to every brand just to sell a book, its complete nonsense. All the other platforms you can sell books on their without any issues so why is it so difficult on amazon & Why do we need to get permission from every brand? It just doesn't add up
Seller support didnt even acknowledge the mention of the first sale doctine, just came out with a robotic response. Complete waste of time.
Are you still thinking of sending the email?

I think today I’m now at the point were I might follow suit of some of you guys and start winding down with book selling on here.
I’ve been out sourcing this morning. Found 10 profitable books and 8 of them were gated and requesting approval. Various publishers. It just completely knocks your drive and commitment to doing it. I’m beginning to wonder if they are gating the profitable books so certain sellers get the sales for high price books.
I’ve never known it this bad and it looks like it’s getting worse now every week.
Shocking seller support who don’t even acknowledge the issue properly and Mods who just come back with pointless information after being chased repeatedly for weeks. I don’t believe Amazon are doing anything to improve it either despite what Mods keep saying. It’s just a way of fobbing us sellers off.
I’m at the point now were I’m gunna go back to the drawing board and look at some other avenues for my business. Complete waste of time now bookselling on here and constant battle that’s only going to get worse sooner rather later

@Seller_vijjPUI46bUSN - do you sell on Ebay ?
I do with some of my more expensive books, but photographing and listing takes much longer than on Amazon, which is frustrating, but can be more profitable.
Seller_vijjPUI46bUSN
I do with some books but when I research sold prices on there a lot of books arent profitable like they are on Amazon
How you finding selling books on eBay? Some people say Abes good as well. Il give eBay there dues when you have a problem you can actually speak to someone within 5 minutes over the phone and they always want to sort your issue and they generally do. Complete opposite to a certain other platform we know not naming names ha ha.
Since I posted this morning on the forum I’ve had another 3 books requiring approval. What Mods said other day about them being aware and working to improve it is a load of nonsense, they are slowly going through all the books catalogue and gating everything. It’s just another Fob off because we kept chasing them for a follow up.

Happy to keep going. I’ve gone as far as I can with it. Now raised to a ‘specialist team’. When/if I hear back, I’ll update you. In the meantime, I’m going to try to sell elsewhere and will pop back here occasionally to see if anything has changed. Have wasted too much time and energy on trying to sell here.

Just had A&C Black added to the publishers I have to apply for.
Ho-hum, will take my £85 very sellable title and sell elsewhere.
Seller_FQHkqHJI5SqTh
Then do something about it.
Put your time in to selling elsewhere instead of continually flogging the dead horse that is Amazon.

I would bet an awful lot the publishers have every knowledge and are in collusion with Amazon restricting listings, as it's them that benefit by buyers not being able to buy used copies and forced to buy new copies.
