New York state sales tax FBM

Hello Sellers

I hope you guys selling a lot.

I have a question about the NY State sales tax for FBM sellers. Do I need to do anything to report sales tax for the NY state or Amazon does do everything for it?

My inventory - New York state

Shipping from- New York state

Return handling - New York State

Thanks in advance

You are asking bar tenders to perform brain surgery.

You can probably call the NY Sales Tax division and get a CORRECT answer. Google the state sales tax revenue information -- NOT one of the dozens of ads that will pop up -- the state itself!

Where I am I have to FILE a report annually even though Amazon collects and remits all the money.

Failure to file can be expensive in some states.

Yes, you have to file in NY, although Amazon collects and remits the funds for sales on Amazon.

NY filing is fairly simple, although I'm not sure what the wording is for sales with the tax already paid. It's been years since I've had to file sales tax in NY, but it was very easy to figure out. Contact the state, or a tax professional (NOT someone at a pop-up tax prep store!) if you have more questions.

Hi @Seller_Pg9ezHM7QQ52K,

Steve from Amazon here, thank you for the post. While I am unable to provide specific tax advice, I have provided several resources below with more information on Amazon tax guidelines.

Tax Guidelines

State Tax Registration Numbers

Amazon Tax-Exemption Program

Marketplace Withheld Tax

After review, if your question is still unanswered, I recommend that you create a case to Seller Support with your question and they can engage the Tax department.

Thanks,

Steve
