AMAZON REVIEW DISASTER? 15+ REVIEWS GONE OVERNIGHT

### 🚨 THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO ME: 15+ Amazon Reviews Disappeared Overnight — Years of Review History Gone

This is **not a theoretical question, warning or blog post**. This has actually happened to my Amazon UK account.

I woke up to find that **around 15 genuine customer reviews had disappeared from one of my established listings overnight**.

I then checked my other listings and discovered something even more concerning — **the same issue had happened across multiple ASINs**.

These are not new listings. In the jewellery and engagement-ring category, building this level of genuine review history takes **years**.

Years of customer orders.

Years of customer feedback.

Years of building trust.

And suddenly, **that review history was no longer showing.**

I contacted Amazon Seller Support, but the explanations I received have not been consistent.

For one ASIN, Amazon told me the reviews were not being shared because the variation included **diamond carat weight**, which they considered a substantive product difference.

But another affected ASIN varies only by **ring size and metal colour**, without carat-weight variation, and the reviews disappeared there as well.

Amazon then told me:

> “Metal type is not a cosmetic colour difference.”

They explained that White Gold, Yellow Gold and Rose Gold are different materials and therefore considered core product differences.

But here is where I am struggling to understand what is happening.

I checked other sellers and found comparable jewellery listings where **Colour is being used as a variation**, with different metal/colour options within the same listing.

One example is **ASIN B0GXTKY5ZG**, and there are several others.

Amazon previously even escalated our case to a specialist team because the earlier explanation did not account for all of the affected ASINs.

### My main concern

**If this can happen to one seller overnight, after years of building genuine reviews, it could potentially happen to any seller.**

I am sharing this because I genuinely want to know:

**Has this happened to anyone else recently?**

Have you opened your account and suddenly found that **years of reviews have disappeared from established ASINs?**

If you sell jewellery and use **Colour variations**, are your reviews still being shared normally?

This is a real experience from my account, and I would genuinely appreciate other sellers sharing what they are seeing.

**I am not posting this as a complaint for the sake of complaining. I want to understand whether this is happening across Amazon or whether something specific has happened to our catalogue.**

Hi @Seller_16s46dU1rf9sr,

Thank you for posting.

Earlier this year, Amazon updated the way reviews are shared across product variations. Under this policy, reviews will only be shared when product variations have minor differences that don't impact a product's core functionality. Reviews will no longer appear on variations with significant differences.

According to the policy, under the "Color & Appearance" category, design differences such as jewellery gemstones and coating affecting performance (e.g., different metal types) are considered not eligible for review sharing. While a simple colour variation (like red vs blue on a phone case) would typically qualify, metal type differences — such as White Gold, Yellow Gold, and Rose Gold — are considered material composition differences rather than purely cosmetic colour changes. This is because different metals have different properties, durability, and value, which can impact the customer's purchasing decision.

Similarly, diamond carat weight would be considered a core product difference affecting functionality and value.

Why you may see inconsistencies with other sellers:

Some listings you're seeing may not yet have been evaluated, or their variation structure may differ from yours in ways that aren't immediately visible on the detail page.

What I'd recommend as next steps:

  • If you believe your variations truly only differ by cosmetic colour (and not by metal composition or gemstone specifications), you can continue working with Seller Support and request the case be escalated to the specialist team for a further review.
  • Consider whether restructuring your variations — separating metal types into distinct parent-child families — might allow reviews to share within each group where differences are truly cosmetic only.

Important to note: This policy update only impacts review sharing. Your parent-child variation relationships, revenue metrics, and Best Sellers Rank all remain unchanged.

I understand this is a significant concern, and I appreciate you raising it here so other sellers in similar categories can be aware.

Best Regards,

Ken

Yes it happened to me but at least amazon is telling you why. All 5 of my reviews were allowed to remain publicly displayed for months, Amazon later decided that every single one violated the Guidelines, removed all 5 at once, won't tell me which published rule was violated, and apparently didn't notify the customers whose reviews were removed.

Those customers are then expected to somehow notice their old reviews have disappeared and contact Amazon themselves to find out what happened.

Meanwhile, my listing is left at 0 reviews and I'm expected to invest in PPC and compete normally with established products. What makes this even harder to understand is that I can see competing products in the same category with reviews containing far more questionable claims and content than anything that appeared in my reviews, yet those reviews remain publicly visible.

I just struggle to understand how this process is supposed to be fair to either the seller or the customer.

This also happened to our ASINs last week.

Across our ASINs, reviews were removed and just one review per ASIN was left, it was very strange.

Did you get any resolution to this? Did your reviews return?
