Adding offers to generic products listing
I tried to add my offer to a listing, the product is marked as generic but it's not, it's branded and the listing uses the correct EAN. I get this message "You cannot change a product detail page or add offers on another seller’s generic product, or copy the product detail page to another store. If you want to sell a generic product, you must create a new product. To create a new product, follow the process outlined in Add a Product tool." Not all generic listing do this though, I don't know why some do.
But what does it mean? That I can open a new generic listing with my own description and title (this doesn't even have a description and the title is three words)? The database is getting more and more confusing and there are so many mixed messages.

The original person who created the listing will be the only one able to edit the listing with product details.
Ideally you need to list against the correct EAN of the item.
It is unfair there is the rule that you are unable to change generic listings.
Have you tried asking support to change the brand name/product details? help > issue (Title, description, bullets updateFix incorrect or missing details on the detail page, like the title, bullets or description)
Generic listings should only be used if you have no EAN for the product in my opinion.

I have tried this option and I got a nonsense response from Seller Support telling me I can't change the Brand because all items in a product category must have the same attribute.
The response doesn't even make sense, obviously there are many brands in a product category so the brand attribute will differ between items.
After that I really didn't bother to try again. I only have so much fight in me to try and get things changed.

Yeah, this is a big problem where branded products are not supposed to be listed on Amazon as Generic, but some people have found some sort of a workaround... Ive sourced products before and tried to list them only to be lumbered with unsellable stock, and seller support are as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Wow, did they really say that or you parodying them?
On the subject of generic listings generally - is it any wonder the catalogue is such a hopeless mess?
Filled with duplicated junk and almost impossible to navigate and Amazon's solution is to add more duplicates... :-/

ChatGPT wrote it :D but I think it captured the tone quite well, I never received anything this bad but some were quite close.

In my experience reporting this kind of things is a waste of time, they will always reply that everything is ok as it is, even when the EAN matches the real brand, the item in the photos clearly shows the brand etc.
