In our new podcast series Small Business Bytes on This is Small Business, producer Andrea Marquez shares bite-sized insights from interviews with more than 100 US small business owners about pivotal moments, challenges, and lessons learned as they scaled their business.

In this series, Marquez explores how mindset is a powerful tool to guide long-term planning and overcome challenges:

  1. Know the problem you’re solving: Your why leads your decisions, your brand messaging, and keeps you going when things get tough. For example, Sean Brownlee founded Ravenox to create stable, meaningful jobs for veterans as they transition to civilian life. Teri Johnson created Harlem Candle Co to celebrate Black culture in the US through fragrance. Both found success by grounding their business in a clear purpose. Ask yourself: What pain point does my business address? And how does that connect to my deeper mission?
  2. Don’t wait for perfect: Trying to perfect your product before launching can stall your growth. When Val Fishbane of Spread the Love Foods launched early, real world customer data helped refine everything from the ingredients to the jar size. Consider starting small, gathering feedback, and iterating from there.
  3. Make your brand story personal: Storytelling builds emotional trust, but it needs to be rooted in something meaningful. Conchita Pleasant started Nefertiti’s Secrets after losing her hair during cancer treatment. She turned personal healing into a haircare brand focused on empowerment. Ray Phillips of Soap Sox created his product to help children in treatment facilities feel safe at bath time. These stories make customers feel seen and understood. Share the personal moment that sparked your business. Why did you decide to create this solution?
  4. Craft a pitch that hooks in seconds: A sharp elevator pitch should spark curiosity fast. Felicia Jackson (CPR Wrap) opens her pitch with a gripping moment of panic: watching her child choke and feeling powerless despite her CPR training. Matthew Tesvich (Skunk Skin) connects with humor and relatability: he jokes about his own stinky feet, then pitches odor-fighting socks. Present the problem, an emotional hook, and a simple solution, and try to do it in less than 60 seconds.
  5. Use social proof to build trust: User-generated content like reviews, social media tags, and customer photos and videos are powerful tools to grow your brand. Research shows that 70% of customers will consider user-generated content before purchasing a product. Create a branded hashtag, repost customer content (with permission), and add reviews or videos to your product pages or email newsletters.

I have had the same issue 2-3 days ago, around £70 of 11p charges for 'Adjustments' all my Parcels are exactly 0.15kg and size is 66cm by 6cm. I put this in and always got the £2.95 charge, yesterday, I had over £70 of 11p charges. No idea why, not paying this, my account is currently in -£70 and they are trying to charge me. Same issue here.

Absolutely no sales. Anybody else?
by Seller_d8WfbEccuaGMc

Has anybody else experienced a huge drop in sales as of recent? Last month or so?

Down 70% and have not had a sale for 6 days. Fear this is going to send us out of business if this continues.

Account health is perfect. No account issues.

This is beyond unacceptable.

We issued a full refund over 70 days ago, and now the same buyer has somehow managed to open an A-to-Z claim on that already resolved order. The buyer does not have the item, has been returned and refunded in full, and yet Amazon has allowed this claim to proceed. How is this even possible?

This individual has ordered from us twice before and left two negative feedbacks within the very hour of delivery not just the same day, the same hour. We've reported this behaviour repeatedly, flagged it as abusive, and received no meaningful action in return either feedbacks remaining and keep harming my account.

Now, not only is this malicious buyer still active, they are being empowered to exploit the system further opening claims months after resolution. This is a clear breakdown in process and seller protection.

We are expected to meet the highest standards as sellers, yet we’re given zero defence against blatant abuse. Amazon’s failure to close such an obviously invalid claim is a direct threat to seller integrity and business stability.

Customer issue:

Property Damage or Personal Injury Incident

Delivery estimate: 18 February 2025 - 21 February 2025

We demand an explanation:

How is a claim allowed on a refunded order after 70+ days?

What safeguards are in place to prevent this kind of abuse?

Why are repeat offenders not being flagged and restricted?

Enough is enough. This treatment is not just unfair it is harmful. Amazon must be held accountable for failing to protect its sellers from this kind of exploitation.

For a claim that a faulty product caused them harm, the customer first needs to have the product in their possession, which they do not. That’s the issue here. The item was returned and refunded over 70 days ago. Now they’re making a new claim for what, exactly? No idea. It was already closed now. This suggests that Amazon isn’t checking the details very thoroughly.

VEEQO Buy Shipping Issues Beware
by Seller_KlbXZHzQGSDZv

For stock control they are pretty good as we use 4 online places and they integrate (now) with all of them.

Postage never used them for it happy with the integration with click and drop our vtr is regularly around 70% but thats just amazon's inability to check properly as a fair amount of ours is send 2nd class bpl large letter which should work but sometimes its RM not scanning and sometimes its amazon not understanding.

As free software goes its pretty good if your looking at the paid route your looking at £150 a month which is something we just cant afford.

Hello, @Seller_XUNeUuvrQDpgP:

I am writing to request assistance regarding a significant issue that occurred on April 18, 2025, when all of my 70 FBA listings suddenly lost the Buy Box/Featured Offer visibility. This includes one of my best-performing ASINs, which previously held the #1 Best Seller Rank in its category.

After thoroughly reviewing the relevant documentation on Seller University regarding Featured Offer eligibility, I can confirm that none of the outlined criteria disqualify my listings. Specifically:

Pricing Health: Healthy

Account Health: Healthy

Order Defect Rate: N/A

Cancellation Rate: 0%

Late Dispatch Rate: 0%

All items are fulfilled by Amazon (FBA). As a professional seller, I'm the registered brand owner and only seller on Amazon.

Given that all performance metrics are in good condition and the pricing is within the competitive range, I kindly request a detailed review and clarification of why the Buy Box has been removed from my listings.

Please let me know if any further information is required on my end to assist with your investigation.

Thank you for your time and support.

Hi fellow sellers,

I’m reaching out because my seller account suddenly lost the Buy Box/Featured Offer across all 70 of my listings overnight. Seller Support has only provided a vague response, stating that my account is currently not eligible for the Featured Offer. Like many others who’ve faced this before, my Account Health and Pricing Health are both in good standing, and there’s no clear reason for the loss.

I remember there was a megathread on this exact issue about 12 months ago, and Mod @Seller_XUNeUuvrQDpgP was actively monitoring it and escalating cases to internal teams. I'm wondering if @Seller_XUNeUuvrQDpgP is still keeping an eye on that thread or if there’s a new place to report this.

If anyone else is experiencing the same issue or has found a solution, I’d really appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks, and best of luck to everyone!
