It's one of the most frustrating situations in selling: a buyer opens an A-to-Z Guarantee claim, receives a full refund, and keeps your product. You're left out of pocket with no item returned. Sound familiar?

You're not alone — and there are steps you can take. Let's break down what's actually happening, what your rights are, and how to protect your account going forward.

🔍 Why does this happen?

The A-to-Z Guarantee exists to protect buyers when a transaction doesn't go as expected. When Amazon investigates a claim, the decision depends on evidence like:

  • Proof of delivery (tracking with signature confirmation)
  • Buyer-seller messaging history
  • Whether the seller responded within the required timeframe

If Amazon cannot confirm delivery to the buyer's satisfaction — even with basic tracking — the claim may be granted without requiring the buyer to return the item.

⚠️ The impact on your account

An A-to-Z claim that isn't denied counts towards your Order Defect Rate (ODR). Amazon requires sellers to maintain an ODR below 1% over a rolling 60-day period. Too many defects can trigger:

• Account health warnings

• Listing restrictions

• In severe cases, account deactivation

You can monitor this via your Account Health Dashboard in Seller Central.

✅ What you can do RIGHT NOW

1. Respond promptly — always: You have 48 hours to respond to Amazon's request for additional information. If you miss this window, the claim is automatically granted in the buyer's favour, your account is debited, and your ODR takes a hit.

2. Provide compelling evidence: If you used Buy Shipping and shipped on time, Amazon will cover delivery-related A-to-Z claims and they won't count against your ODR, no additional proof of delivery is required for this protection. If you did NOT use Buy Shipping, a carrier delivery scan alone may not be enough to win a claim. Strengthen your case with:

• Signature confirmation

• Photographic proof of delivery

• Proof of item weight matching the dispatched parcel

• Any buyer-seller messages acknowledging receipt

3. Appeal the decision: If a claim is granted and you believe it was unfair, you can appeal. Present new, relevant evidence not previously considered. Be factual, concise, and professional.

4. Request a return before refunding: If you choose to refund proactively, remember: you may request the buyer return the item before you process that refund. This is within your rights as a seller.

5. Report suspected buyer abuse: Amazon's systems evaluate buyer behaviour patterns. If you believe a buyer is abusing the A-to-Z process, report it through Seller Central by going to Performance > Account Health > Report Abuse and selecting the appropriate reason. Amazon does investigate repeat abusers.

🛡️ Prevent future claims — best practices

• Always use tracked delivery with signature confirmation for high-value items

• Communicate proactively with buyers about dispatch and delivery timelines

• Keep your messaging within Amazon's platform — off-platform comms aren't considered in disputes

• Set realistic delivery expectations in your listings

• Monitor your Account Health Dashboard weekly

🔥 Unpopular opinion time

Here's a debate that divides sellers every time it comes up:

"Signature confirmation on every order is overkill — the cost eats into margins and most buyers are legitimate."

Others say:

"After losing £200+ to a claim I couldn't win, I'll never send anything without it again. Non-negotiable."

Where do you stand? And at what order value does signature confirmation become essential for you — £20? £50? £100+?

Long Delay After FBA Shipment Was Fully Received
by Seller_Yu9Wq2LQpZUOC

Hello Amazon Team,

Our FBA shipment FBA19B7Q5RYH was fully received on 20 June 2026, but as of 15 July 2026, not a single unit is available for sale. The shipment status has also not changed since 20 June.

Seller Support keeps telling us the inventory is being transferred between fulfillment centers, but it has now been 25 days, which seems far too long for an internal transfer.

Could an Amazon moderator please investigate and help expedite this process? Thank you.

Hi @Seller_ffDSmJ9POyrBl

I can see this is a concerning pattern. To look into this further, I need a few details:

Can you provide all 8 order IDs affected?

For each claim, have you appealed through the A-to-Z claims page? If so, how many times per order (sellers can appeal up to twice per claim)?

Once I have that information, I can review and determine next steps.

Regarding the second buyer showing the same pattern, I'd recommend reporting them through Seller Central: Performance > Account Health > Report Abuse.

If you can provide me with these details, I can look into how to escalate further.

a to z claims fraud moderator please help!!!!
by Seller_ffDSmJ9POyrBl

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping an Amazon moderator can take a look at this case or advise on what I can do next.

Last month, one buyer placed 8 separate orders with us over the course of a week, with each order being delivered to a different address. Then, two days ago, the buyer opened A-to-z Guarantee claims on all 8 orders at the same time, stating:

"My item is not delivered yet and I no longer needed it now."

Amazon approved all of the claims.

We appealed every claim because all orders were delivered by Royal Mail/Parcelforce, and we provided proof of delivery, including:

Delivery confirmation.

Signature on delivery.

A delivery photo clearly showing the buyer accepting the parcel at their doorstep.

Despite this evidence, every appeal was denied.

To make matters worse, we've tried contacting the buyer using the mobile number provided on the order details, but it appears to be a false number and cannot be reached.

We're a small business, and losing over £200 like this has had a significant impact on us. What's even more concerning is that another buyer who purchased the same item has now done exactly the same thing. We will be appealing those claims as well, but after this experience we're not very hopeful.

Could an Amazon moderator please review these cases or advise whether they can be escalated for a manual review? It feels very unfair that clear proof of delivery, including signatures and delivery photos, has not been considered.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

FBA have lost 8 boxes and are denying claim
by Seller_zWpliaCE34XT0
Amazon replied

We sent 9 boxes to LBA4 last month, they were transferred to DSA6 and all signed as received however only one box has been processed and the shipment has been closed with 8 boxes unaccounted for.

Yet again the same cut and paste response has been given to our case:

——————————-

We're denying your reimbursement claim for the following units because we didn't receive all expected quantities when compared to your shipping plan:*** Removed ASINs and the quantities to maintain confidentiality****We must be able to confirm receipt of specific items and quantities against your shipping plan. Proof of delivery only confirms that the carrier made a delivery at our fulfillment center and isn't confirmation that Amazon received the exact items and quantities stated in your shipping plan.We recommend that you work with your carrier and/or third-party logistics (3PL) on these discrepancies and ensure that you have appropriate insurance for future shipments. Many carriers and 3PLs assume limited liability for damage or loss in transit. If you need more details for this shipment, view the Shipment summary, Contents tab in Seller Central.

—————————

Every time I reopen the case requesting an investigation it is closed with the above message. Can one of the mods please escalate this to a competent human?

Hi @Susi_Amazon

Thankyou for your response, sadly it is not a solution at all.

I am a long term seller and am very aware of the requirements of Amazon shipments, we pack all shipments ourselves. This shipment was correct and exact as were the box weights.

This particular shipment according to the BOL which has all weights on it, was delivered and signed for by an Amazon employee, all 9 boxes were signed for and delivered on the same day.

Now tell me please how this is not Amazon's issue?

Are you trying to tell me someone at Amazon signed for 8 empty unsealed boxes? I am sure they are not this stupid.

Amazon is liable for any stock missing in the warehouse or during warehouse transfers. Thus Amazon are liable for the contents of the 8 boxes they have not yet processed and which seem to have been mislaid when being transferred (by Amazon) from LBA4 to DSA6.

It is near impossible to even open a case about this issue, the whole system is set up so sellers find it too hard and just give up. However, I am not giving up. This is negligence on the part of Amazon and action needs to be taken.

If you are using IOSS you will now pay duty for most countries. Despite using the same service which has always been DDU, only 8 countries are now eligible for this. The same service (MTK, MP7, DE4, DG4) is now both DDP and DDU depending on the destination. Some countries are not eligible for IOSS at all using these services.

There's no option for International Standard to send DDU using IOSS for most countries as far as I can see.

What a total mess.

dropped 140 places in sales rank for category
by Seller_2FzVhfGAewLeP

Is their a glitch in the sales rankings today?

Each morning I check my main product sales rank as it gives me an indication of how well my products are competing. Normally I rank between 8 and 16 in my category of baby products-nursing&feeding-food storage. Today I am at 146! Not through low sales though and yesterday I was at no. 9!

Does anyone else have the same issue?

PLEASE STOP USING EVRI
by Seller_EOcs2fzk39KBY
Amazon replied

Never posted before, and that's strange after working with Amazon for many companies, over many years. But, this is bugging me.....

Customers may wish to return a product, no problem. We use the Amazon free returns process, (that obviously we pay for). Great, Amazon issues a Royal Mail post paid label, and as long as the consumer pops the item in the post quite quickly, it is a smooth operation. We receive the item back to our correct location, checked and the customer refunded without any drama.

Increasingly now however, Amazon issue an EVRI label, and we cringe. Firstly, for some unknown reason, customers get a refund, we're advised it's refunded on first scan, but we haven't got it. We have given no agreement for this to occur, and should not happen. Then we wait. On average we are receiving items up to 8-10 days after the service says we should receive it, while that is unacceptable, the part that angers us, is that our parcels don't always get to our rather large trading unit, (one with a huge orange sign). To date 65% have been dropped at random locations around our unit, (house porches, someone's garage and even a pub postal storage locker). Surely Amazon can't advise this is acceptable. Thankfully, the local people have hearts of gold and help us.

Solution - stop using EVRI, and definitely don't refund a customer until we've actually got it.

p.s. Amazon's instructions on refunds for FBM, don't refund until we've got it.
