Adding a variation to an existing product

Hi Guys - Longtime forum reader first time posting. If anyone has any advise that would be much appreciated.

I have a product I would like to add some variations to. It is some artwork in size A4. I would like to add the same artwork but in different sizes eg A3. The category I sell in is Home and Kitchen > Posters and Prints.

I understand I need to create a parent product and then add this existing item which is a child product. Is this correct or am I way off?

Yes if you go to add a product and scroll down you will see create variations and use the wizard.
You can add a parent and knit them together using the wizard or do it with an upload.
