Also, Tracked doesn’t automatically provide a signature (although it does send SMS and email alerts to the buyer). if you require a signature when using Tracked it costs an extra 30p.

Beware of Royal Mail pushing extra cost onto special delivery also (on fridays)as they try to say it isn’t guaranteed as Saturday isn’t a working day.Its bollocks.You pay for special delivery on a Friday it IS guaranteed next 1pm.I bought something from a private individual on Ebay on a Friday I asked for special delivery as it was to be a gift that weekend.He informed me he had sent it special delivery but couldn’t guarantee I would get it as post office pushed the extra charge which he refused to pay.it informed him not to worry it WILL.AND…it did come on the Saturday. So watch out for this additional charge that RM are trying to push

1st signed for usually has one or two touch points (usually just when signed for by customer). No compensation offered.
If you are a business customer and you can reach a good deal with RM the two can cost the same making 24 tracked a better, more secure method.

No. To take advantage of Royal Mail 24 you need to be VAT registered and requesting signature on Royal Mail 24 is optional. 24 is only available to business customers.
Whereas Royal Mail states 24 will arrive next working day but it does not always, especially during peak mail times. My understanding, Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For, 90% will arrive with in 3 working days and it is open to consumers. This means, in theory, 1st Class Signed For can be a slower service and you are not able to reclaim VAT.

From an insider view, I am a postie and an amazon seller, within the royal mail internal system, tracked 24s are actuallly treated as special delivery within transit (i.e.they get isolated and go straight to the special delivery lockers in each sorting office to be scanned and tracked) so they will get there the next day (not guaranteed 1pm but will arrive next day). As for Saturday special delivery, in my opinion not usually worth paying the extra for guaranteed 1pm delivery unless requested and paid for by customer, vast majority of the time it will be delivered by 1pm for following reasons, its a generally lower volume day for mail, usually most posties start earlier, work faster and get finished early on Saturdays so we can start our weekends! So unless unlucky enough for a call to be on the last loop of our daily deliveries or at the very end of a rural route, they will almost always get there by 1pm anyway. We always generally deliver UK specials before 1pm as a matter of course on Saturday anyway whether they are guaranteed or not. Hope that helps
