Creating new product variation deletes all products information BUG

I’ve been having this problems when creating new product variations:

  • I add existing products into a variation by entering their SKU + ASIN
  • I save the variation
  • PROBLEM 1: all products titles gets replaced by the title I typed in the newly created variation
  • PROBLEM 2: all products information disappears, including all description, key features, keywords, everything!
  • PROBLEM 3: Variation image -> Amazon randomly assigns image from one of the products for all of them, e.g. I created variation with: 1 Pack, 2 Pack and 4 Pack. In 1 Pack I have image of single box, on 2 Pack it’s an image of 2 boxes and 4 Pack has image of 4 boxes. However, when the variation gets created Amazon picks randomly same image for all 3 products which is totally wrong and for example on single products it displays image of 4 Products.

Why is the Amazon interface so terribly buggy?!?!?!

Does anyone know what’s going on?

I tried just about everything and it’s so super buggy and many times when I create / edit a variation it duplicates all products after each change - it creates a new product with new SKUs.

What method are you using for creating a variation? variation wizard, flat file upload or creating it directly in your inventory?
What you’re doing step-by-step would help to identify the actual cause of the problems.

This is normal behaviour in certain categories, mainly fashionand wearables (wearable tech, toys such as rollerskates).

This makes me think you’re creating the variation via a flat file upload and using the “update” option instead of “partial update”?

Set the “swatch” image for each of the variations, this is the last image on the images tab for the products.

I am using manual mode to create it by going to: INVENTORY -> ADD PRODUCT

  • I find and select correct category
  • then I enter product name (do I need to enter the name?), brand and manufacturer
  • then on next screen I select variation theme - “NumberOfItems” - btw. there’s also same theme with lowercase name “numberofitems” - not sure what’s the difference?
  • anyway, in the variation I select 3 variations: 1,2,4 (as number of items) and then add to each the existing product SKU + ASIN + Status NEW and quantity (not sure why is it asking for quantity since it should know how many I have from the original product listings)
  • in the original (old) interface it also asks me to add IMAGEs (I don’t know why??? since there are already images in each product)
  • then I save it and all goes to hell :((

Looks like I managed to find the problem via the customer help center. One of the product was for some reason assigned to a different category than the other 2 so it didn’t display in the variation. I am yet to confirm this since changing category can take up to 48h.
