This was mentioned earlier in the year as part of the modernisation of Royal Mail

I am not particularly against it even though it will impact most of the products. I am not sure most customers expect deliveries on a Saturday.

The big question would be if Amazon make allowances with this in transit times!

Whilst Royal Mail may want to do this they are currently obliged under the universal service obligation to deliver letters 6 days a week at an affordable price. Any change to this would require parliamentary approval which is not guaranteed.

Our postie has just come in & said our depo with 66 workers over 3 SO, there are 6 redundancy offers been announced this morning. 9 months pay plus 6 grand. Apparently, most of them have said they want it :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:.

Speaking to our SO front staff the other week and he was saying that the PO is looking to be a parcel based company did not understand when I laughed as get rid of the ll and l and see how many people vote with their feet. The LL and L are whats tying most people to RM and they are not competitive on the parcel ranges.

As I read it, the idea is to concentrate more on parcels (7 days a week) and letters (5 days a week). To a lot of people, this makes sense because if you get “business letters” on a Saturday, more often than not you can’t act upon them until the Monday, eg a council tax bill query. I also suspect that should such a change occur, it will not be for some time because it will require parliamentary approval which will require a motion and debate.

Wonder if Amazon will recognise if Royal Mail stops LL on Saturday- sellers won’t get hit or marked down as mine are large letter only.

I don’t think so. My invoices are now every few days

No mention of Large Letters in the article?? I send a few things FBM LL. Some that just fit the LL sizing.

Anyway it has to be approved by “government”. I can’t see it going ahead tbh

the government has refused them, at the moment. they are legally bound to deliver 6 days. i think RM is up to something.

i gather ending letter delivery Saturdays would result in jobs losses or at the least less money paid out to staff.

if i remember there used to be a Saturday premier paid on overtime, plus there was a Saturday allowance.

then the saving of diesel, sick leave less accidents and so on and cleaners etc. some people collect their mail on Saturdays too.

to clarify they RM would still deliver parcels as normal on Saturdays

i agree with HOSupplies that there might be cash flow concerns at RM, or the shareholders are demanding more money.
