Help with creating listing - GTIN numbers not recognised or already in use
Hello all
I’m trying to create a new listing for a generic phone case item, i have purchased a bundle from GS1 and I’m getting the following errors - either You are using UPCs, EANs, ISBNs, ASINs, or JAN codes that do not match the products you are trying to list. If you believe you have reached this message in error, please contact Seller Support.
or the number is already attached to a different product - in this case random shoes ive tried 4 different numbers and waited well over 72 hours too
what am i doing wrong?
Thanks
Rich

If the codes are already allocated to something else ie already used, contact GS1 and request replacement codes

Hi
we have been gone through with this situation twice, first time was not that hard and matter was resolved in 2-3 weeks and second time (very recent), they still not resolved the issue, honestly it becomes nightmare. They are going to ask you so many questions (be ready for it). they are going to ask for brand registration, GS1 certificate, then relation between supplier and brand, if you are manufacturer, provide a proof for it…bla bla bla…
Also I do not want to scare you, but they might deactivate your account in next 2-3 months, this is what happened to us.
we are facing this issue from last few months and our account has been deactivated 1 week ago and fighting them to re-activate.

This is a wider issue i think they have changed the code somewhere and now its affecting everyone.
I have the same problem

I am having the exact same problem. How do you register your products as ‘Generic’ on GS1?
I have an account with them under Zulu Image as when you register with them it asks for your company name but how do you actually then register each EAN with generic?

IF they are generic items do they already have a barcode?
If they do is there not a generic product already you can list under?
If they don’t then why not apply for exemption?
My experience with GS1/Amazon is that the barcode is not assigned to a company, the company locks their brand name to a specific prefix with Amazon - For instance company A tells Amazon that all their barcodes should start 51090 - so if you try to list something for company A with 52091 it comes up with that error.
Amazon don’t care what you have in the boxes for the specific barcode on GS1, I honestly don’t think they even check, you could leave them empty for all anyone cares, they only care that its not the number they were expecting that is linked to the Brand Name.
I can use my own barcodes to happily list for 5 or 6 different companies without any further action required, presumably because that company hasn’t locked their brand name with a specific prefix. However for a couple I had to get permission from that company to use my own barcodes, presumably Amazon have now added the prefix 52091 with Company A and I can now use any of my codes for those brand names.
I am not sure how it works with Generic though…
