If the buyer only messaged you, but within the returns period, then it’s still a valid return request.

Provide him the return address or a pre-paid label if the reason is seller-faulted.

Once you receive the item back, inspect it to see, if the return reason is correct. If not, you can treat it as a discretionary return.
