Returns handling service

We get lots of returns on Amazon. It’s a combination of the type of thing we sell and Amazon being Amazon really. It’s built into our business model.

Recently I’ve been looking into having a third party look after these for us. All that would change from Amazon’s point of view is the return address - and therein lies my concern.

I know the company offers this service to other Amazon sellers. My concern is should one of those other sellers fall foul of some Amazon rule or other and have their account suspended, would the rest of us suffer guilt by association in that we all share the same now “tainted” returns address?

Therein lies the crux. We all know that Amazon does work in a way that “guilt by association” has been punished with suspensions in the past, even where there has been a totally innocent explanation. Personally, I would steer clear of this, purely based on the fact that you say you get a lot of returns. However, only you know how much work is involved with your returns and how it affects your business.

We have been using one of the return service providers for over a year now as we needed return addresses in all EU marketplace home countries, the provider we use is also found on Amazon’s own partner network.

We have had no such issues and I do not believe Amazon would link suspended accounts via return addresses as that would defeat Amazon pushing these services themselves end of last year. (We got a few e-mails from Amazon detailing these kind of services and how they can improve the customer experience, ofcourse)

I suppose a lot of the time questions like this are a matter of opinion and only Amazon will have a definitive answer on this.

My opinion is that account issues develop from the bits you put into account verification and a returns address or even the send from address is not linked to account verification.

Therefore logic would tell me that the returns address would not link account and provided your account is not linked to the offending party, if that becomes tainted it wouldn’t pick up that you have just had things sent there in the past.

If there was issues of this nature then all Amazon sellers who use a dropshipping method would have constant issues.
