Thank you all, and goodnight xx
Just a quick thank you to everyone on here who has offered helpful advice in the past, very much appreciated.
With this last lot of changes, I have decided to vote with my feet and close my account. Amazon won’t provide me with a way to print labels without buying a label printer and more stock, nor do they trust me to send the items I say I’m sending.
On top of all that, they take too much of my pie, for far too little seller support, they have n faith in their sellers and punish the good because of the bad that they’re too lazy to root out, even when they’re reported to them. Final straw is amazon auto accepting an “item defective” return, despite the fact it’s physically impossible for the item to be defective, give me no way to discuss with the buyer, and charge me twice the shipping for the return than I charged.
My time is too valuable for the amount of income I get from Amazon, I simply don’t have the time to be wasting it, or my energy, anymore. I always do my best as a seller, yet Amazon couldn’t care less and just make {Moderator Edit (Winston) profanity removed} difficult.
So, thanks again all.
Hugh

If it isn’t defective (so buyer used wrong code) and it’s a refund on the first scan you can fill out a SAFE-T claim. Regarding the return postage cost… this has been used for months now and something you needed to account for in your pricing. It is a tracked return. Unfortunately you can’t take out certain return codes if it’s physically impossible to be defective, it’s an automated system… You could still get that on eBay.
I send customers a message about their return offering support as soon as I see it’s been filed, if they don’t message you first and put a return in there’s little you can do. I find this reduces returns as we can often come to a positive resolution without the need for the return.

On top of what HOSupplies already said, You don’t need a label printer to use buy shipping, maybe people on here just use a normal printer with normal paper and Sellotape the label on.
that said if you aren’t making much here, and its not worth the stress then you should definitely leave.

If they haven’t returned it yet you wont be able to do that til you’ve got the return back and you shouldnt have been charged for the label yet if its not been scanned

Whilst I get where your coming from with the returns etc.
I have yet to come across an item that is physically impossible to be defective.
Even a bar of steel, could be damaged during the delivery process.
So it’s not impossible. Though yes, in most cases, it will be the buyer using the system to get a free return.
But for all problems on Amazon, there simply isn’t anywhere else, where you can get the sheer volume of buyers. But if you can do better elsewhere, then good luck to you and I hope it goes well for you.
Amazon is a bit of a balancing act. You need to be very careful with pricing and allow for the various issues with returns and so on.

hear hear. i agree with everything you say. This new label thing is ridiculous. i will be following you out the door soon. i have already intentionally reduced Amazon turnover by 75% my turnover
Ebay is 100 times better…

Hi Hugh,
I recommend using Shopify, as Amazon are terrible at looking after the seller.

I think a lot of sensible people are leaving this platform

Don’t let the door hit your backside on the way out.
Seriously.
This is the reason I’m not on any kind of social media, too many drama queens after attention.
You didn’t need to announce it, nobody actually cares that you’re leaving, you won’t be missed
Yes Amazon has some support issues, but it is an amazing platform to work with and grow a business - If you actually have some business acumen.
By the sounds of it, your business and the effort that you are willing to put into it is far better suited to Ebay anyhow.
One point I have to make, and this really needs to be taken on board by all of the sellers whining about fees, your fees are not for support or anything else, they are called ‘referral fees’ for a reason, it’s commission, for introducing you to customers, which you would never have without Amazon.
Anyone who thinks that Shopify or whatever website you want to use is great because there’s hardly any fees, tell me how do you get your customers into the store? Do they come in their millions searching for your product? is that free?
If you cannot make a profit here then you are selling too cheaply, or buying for too much, or generally selling the wrong product, that’s on you, not Amazon, the referral fee is a cost of business, just like anything else.
For reference, we have 10-15 key products which we sell circa 10,000 units of each product each month at a margin of 30-60% after all fees / taxes / costs etc. and hundreds more doing 20-30% margin and 1000s of units each month
It isn’t an Amazon problem, it’s a YOU problem.
