How do i add an authenticator app to a Mac desktop? And which one?

I’m not very handy with computers and tech so could do with some guidance on how to add an authenticator app to a Mac desktop (MacBook Air) please…

I have Microsoft Authenticator on my iPhone but apparently it is not available on a desktop so I need to find an alternative.

ps - I’ve started this as a separate thread as I was piggybacking on another and didn’t want to mix up the replies. Thanks

pps - the reason for having another form of 2FA is I am due to go away soon for a short break and I will be taking both my Mac laptop and iPhone. If I lose my iPhone I am unable to log-in (2FA) to Amazon Seller Central so will need an alternative log-in method!?

Thanks

Installing Authy is a case of going to the Authy website (I don’t think amazon will allow the sharing of the link here)

-You select macOS and download. I can’t help with the actual installation unfortunately, its been years since I used a Mac

  • Then once hte app is installed you’ll see a + to add an account and it’ll ask you to enter a code
  • You can get this code for seller central by going to Login Settings under the cog icon in the top right
  • Click Manage next to 2-step verification
  • You can either have Authenicator app as your primary method or a secondary one but there should be a means to Add new App
  • You should see a QR code on the next screen, but under it, click Can’t scan barcode and you’ll get instructions on what to do in Authy

Another option I have just thought of that might work (on a Mac) is enable Messages (the Apple text messaging system) - but i don’t know if you need to have your iPhone in range of the computer (Mac) for it to work. Does anyone know if text messages still come through on a Mac if your iphone is turned off / lost / out of range etc etc?
