Absolutely Baffling - Amazon A to Z strikes again

I genuinly though I had seen it all until this weekend.

So we sent an item through Amazon Shipping, they picked it up, scanned it, took it delivered it confirmed delivery.

The customer was then able to Open an A to Z claim, which Amazon then granted and refunded them from my funds, no order defect but this is the write up below.

So are we now saying, that even orders delivered and confirmed as delivered by Amazon, which Amazon then accepts that we have provided information proving the delivery, that they just still refund the customer from my funds ?

I am absolutely speechless. This is shocking and shows how broken the A to Z system is.

So you can catagorically prove the delivery, by Amazon themselves and that folks is still NOT ENOUGH to win an A to Z claim, even when they acknowledge the customer has received the item.

Madness

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is this happening?

The customer reported an issue with delivery. In this case, the tracking information indicates 'delivered', but the customer did not receive the package. Because you provided sufficient information that proves the order was actually received by the customer, we will not count the claim against your Order Defect Rate.

It means that you have to pay for Amazon's desire to please the customer. Apparently us sellers agree to this.

This is typical Amazon behaviour. If you think this make you feel speechless, set aside 1 hour to trawl the forums with a large mug of tea and biscuits. Our world is different from Amazon's world.

Amazon treats your money as their own, which you permit them to manage.

I remember a case a while back that I lost, the reason given was because I had previously won a similar case. Their words implied it was my turn to loose as they had granted me a similar claim already.

Its like fighting a 5r old.

On the face of it this is the worst case of A-Z manipulation I have ever seen reported on this forum. Are you certain there is nothing else that you haven't reported here.?

I dont think this is a matter that can be dropped. The Amazon A-Z bots cannot be allowed to get away with this. A real Amazon employee must be persuaded to step in.

Basically it's always the customer's word that wins even when it contradicts Amazon Shipping's evidence. Honestly there is no hope.

Let me start by saying I KNOW THIS IS NOT THE POINT... I guess you can now make a claim for the 'lost' item.

My guess is that Amazon shipping will then say that they have proof of delivery. That sounds like a very nasty little cycle to be in but might be worth it to make a point.

they’ve stated that this VTR they’re bringing in will stop this, however I don’t think it will make a scrap of difference especially if they don’t even recognise their own deliveries. I think it’s about time Amazon had a list of scammers that do this sort of thing regularly. Whether they use an IP address or credit card details but it’s crazy the way it carries on. I do kind of ignore it now as I know it will drive me insane if I worried about it. I just think they’re not bothered if we (the posters on this thread) all left it would have very little effect as there would be new sellers behind us saying ‘oh I’ve sold loads of stuff on Amazon without problems’ 13 years down the line you get a bit battled hardened. I’m fortunate that I don’t sell high cost items but I’ve seen some cases on here that would put me in the ground I don’t think I could cope. £500 items signed for but the buyer states that’s not my signature, but a photo of an open door which is his address and still refunded. I’m sorry but it’s not fair and not right. The more Amazon let’s people get away with this the worse it’ll get. The financial situation of most people which isn’t great would encourage them to do this, they’ll see it as a victimless crime ‘oh it’s only Amazon they can afford it’ what most don’t realise is it isn’t Amazon it’s us! 🤬

I am sorry to hear this, @Seller_sg54Fq7GfBZzn. The A-Z Guarantee System is not fit for purpose and does not protect sellers from fraud.

With regards to these situations, Amazon inserted an incredibly corrupt statement in their A-Z Guarantee Policy, here (linked): "In circumstances where the item has been delivered but not received by the customer, a Claim may be granted in the customer’s favour and debited from your account to preserve the customer experience."

This means that even if you secure and present: signatures, GPS coordinates, proof of delivery image, full-tracking; if the customer says they did not receive it Amazon will refund them from your pocket in the name of customer experience. Even in circumstances where you used Amazon's "Buy Shipping", this only protects your order defect rate (and further lines their pockets from the commissions they take)!

Whilst you will not see your money or product (unless the customer wants to put this right), please ensure you report the customer to Action Fraud UK. The more sellers that do this, the bigger the chance that action will be taken against them. It may also be worth reporting your experience to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), as Amazon holds far too much power here and undermines third-party delivery methods, forcing sellers that want protections towards FBA services – which is incredibly anti-competitive!

On a side note, we continue to send our orders 'Signed For'. Whilst we know we do not stand a chance if the customer claims the item did not arrive, we find it dissuades customers that may be tempted to claim from doing so.

All the best and good luck!

The A-Z system on this platform is absolutely disgusting. This is the main reason why SCAM & FRAUDULENT buyers shop on this platform. They know how to expose the system and get everything literally for FREE! I have now started taking people to a small claims court to retrieve my money as it is not sustainable for any business to lose so much stock & money to these repulsive scammers.

Last weekend i had a buyer who put in two return requests stating their parcel was "Empty" & the second one on the same order they stated "The bottle used up and the size is smaller than what was ordered". The kicker in all of this is that their item was delivered TWO days later. Still delivered on time & well within the timeframe given. how does somebody know their parcel is empty or used when they haven't received their delivery?

There should be a system similar to ebay where you can block buyers. Works a treat on there!

As many people have already said on this thread and others, the A to Z policy is a complete shambles and not fit for purpose.

We had a customer this week re-direct a parcel to their neighbour's house which was documented in the Royal Mail tracking history and then claim that it had not been delivered to their address. We told them it had been delivered in line with their instructions and they then said the neighbour did not have the item and opened an A to Z claim, which was granted between the claim being logged around 7pm and 6am the following morning so we had no chance to even put our side of the claim across. Yes, we submitted an appeal but as usual, the AI bots upheld their original decision.

Margins are becoming even tighter on here (something I didn't think was possible) and buy box manipulation from Amazon makes it even more difficult to sell anything with any volume. Sadly though, there is no other platform that attracts this much traffic and can drive volumes like Amz, but it's coming very close to not being viable with all these bogus claims going through all the time.

At least its not counted on your order defect rate, so thats literally the silver lining.

I accepted long ago that its pointless ifghting any claim, as Amazon ALWAYS takes the customers side and enables fraud, since it is not their money.

Accept that literally every order can be stolen from you, and if you accept that you can sell on amazon, if you dont, then dont.

Let me start by saying I KNOW THIS IS NOT THE POINT... I guess you can now make a claim for the 'lost' item.

My guess is that Amazon shipping will then say that they have proof of delivery. That sounds like a very nasty little cycle to be in but might be worth it to make a point.
