Amazon restricting my supplement listing without explaination

Hi everyone,

We have been selling my own private label supplement since November. We sold very well in the first month and then we increased the price to avoid going out of stock while waiting for more inventory to come in.
Just before I was about to ship new inventory to Amazon, my listing got restricted with the following email (see doc 1).

Although I already had approval to sell in the supplement category and I still have it (see doc 2), for some reason I don’t understand they now want me to get approved for the “personal safety and household category” (see doc 3)
I followed the steps outlined in the email to get approved for the personal safety and household category but they said the “information on the supplier was insufficient” . The invoice contains everything about the supplier: name of the company, address, email address, company registration number, VAT number and EORI number, so I don’t know exactly what they want and they aren’t telling me.

My questions are:

  1. any clues why they might have moved my product from the supplements category to the personal safety and household category?
  2. If I think the personal safety and household category is not correct for my product, can I create a new listing in the supplements category and continue selling there?
  3. can I list other supplement products in the supplement category? (I tried creating a listing for a new supplement product in the supplements category and it was successfully created, but I am not sure it won’t get shut down for reasons I don’t get)
  4. do you have any suggestions on how to get around this problem? I have messaged seller support saying they need to tell me exactly what info they need about the supplier so I can provide it, but I know I will probably never get a real answer from a real human, so any suggestions from you would be super helpful🙂

I hope that, since Amazon is not really providing sellers with adequate support, we can create our own support network and help each other out.
Thanks everybody in advance.
Best,
Marina

Hi Marina,

I am also have a private label supplement and this exact same problem has happened to me. I posted about it a few days ago but no-one had any advice.

I found an article that suggests this has happened to many other products these last few weeks, all caused by bots (https://www.amazonsellerslawyer.com/blog/restriction-personal-safety-household-items/). It seems one of the items in the list of PSH products are “General Sales List” medicines and supplements, this is intended to catch items that are being frequently bought in the pandemic (paracetamol, ibuprofen etc - the list is online). Food Supplements are explicitly restricted from that but clearly the bots swept those items up anyway and placed them in the wrong category.

I have appealed as our product should not be in the Personal Safety and Household category. I was only asked to provide images of our product showing all text of the label (registered address, manufacturer name, product name etc.). That was denied and I’ve appealed again.

I’ll let you know if my appeal is successful, I also submitted a Plan of Action with it - even if it is their error. Will be following this thread too to see if other more experienced Amazon sellers have any advice.

Thanks!

Hi Marina,

Any luck with the listing?

I appealed (I think around three times now) and got a response accepting that my products had been placed in the wrong category by Amazon and that they should instead be in Health & Personal Care (where they were listed originally). Amazon said the listing would soon go live again but that this might take up to 1-2 business days to process. That was last Tuesday and it still isn’t fixed, I’ll wait until the end of the week before contacting Seller Central about it again.

Let me know if a copy of the appeal I sent in would be useful to help with your application

Hi, I don’t know why it has disappeared.
Anyway, I basically kept applying for approval and when I said that my product had been put in the wrong category they approved it for personal safety and household. Weird.
I am happy to send you my own correspondence over. Are we allowed to exchange email addresses on the forum? I included my email address in the previous response and I am thinking that, in case this was not allowed, it might have caused my post to get deleted.
