Total Confusion re Latest Approach to Refunds

Amazon seem to have changed their approach on making refunds for returns since I last had to make one. Having read their instructions on refunds I have been left bewildered, and have possibly made a fundamental mistake - please help!

A buyer decided to return an item I recently sold to them on the basis of “no longer needed”. I asked them to return the product, but maybe incorrectly decided to immediately refund their costs. However, despite this the item is still shown as being open on my Seller Central page. Why is is still being shown as open and what should I do to get the matter closed? The only item which seems to be open within my Manage Returns page relates to the Complete page, which requires a reason to be entered. However, none of the reasons seem relevant.

I think I am being completely stupid, but please could anyone help.

Did you refund before they sent it back ?
Do you have it back now ?

It takes a couple of hours or so for the refund to actually take place so it will stay as open on your seller central until then.

So if this is true, ie the refund has not been actually processed, go and cancel the refund. Go to the order, there should be a place where you can cancel the refund.

I did refund the money to them before they sent the goods back. The return was requested yesterday and I (stupidly) made an immediate refund. Clearly I have not yet received the return.

Yes, I was very silly, but to some extent it is not getting the goods back that worries me, but how I get the item removed from my “open return requests” on the Seller Central page?

On the “Refund Items” page, it shows a full refund, approved 1 day ago, with a tick against “Auto-authorised”, and is shown as refunded on the transactions page of my payments report, so no problem that the refund has been made.

From what you are saying it seems all should be OK - so, just to put my mind at rest, is there no problem with it still being shown as open within Seller Central, and how and when is likely to be removed?

You know why they want all these changes its to give the customer best customer service but a headache for the seller when the process has not been made very clear. It appears they send you on a goose chase opening pages and pages of information which does not give clear guidance.

Amazon loves collecting data so they would have a record of every issue with regards to returns but does not include them in the returns policy which then has impact of the seller performance and even damage their metrics not knowing what to do when the information was not made clear from the outset.
