Sole Trader Wholesale Accounts
Hi guys,
As a registered Sole Trader, what are some tips to be more likely to obtain better wholesale accounts?
Because of the long winded verification process, I am registered as my name as a sole trader.
I have no official professional looking business name when talking with wholesalers and brands directly.
How do you guy’s manoeuvre around being a ST and getting good accounts built with your suppliers?
Why would Wholesalers let me open an account with them if I’m some average joe who made himself a sole trader in 15 mins via gov.uk?
Appreciate the help
Thanks

Wholesalers should accept you no problem as long as you show either an invoice from another supplier (catch 22 ) or business bank statement etc
Wholesalers are really the easy bit
They tend to have set minimum spends and discounts
Suppliers direct are the ones who you need to build a relationship with. Over time and based on annual spends, you can get better discounts
It’s a shame you posted this week as last week was NEC spring Fair

Find one - someone will let you open an account and trade - usually by committing to purchase in quantity.
By buying in quantity you separate yourself from chancers. What wholesalers don’t want to deal with (typically, not universally) is hassle. The point of wholesaling is that it is cheaper because it is lower effort than selling retail. Buyers buy in multiples of 10 or 100 units and place large orders all going to the same address in the same shipment and receive them when they receive them. It is a low touch high volume model (usually - not always).

If you don’t want to trade under your name you can always do trading as and make an official sounding name, when I was a ST I had a business name and a business bank account in that name so it all looked a bit more official even though it was still a one man band working from home.
