What is "Payment by Invoice" !?!
1 month ago a buyer bought an item with “payment by invoice”
The order showed up in ready to ship, so I shipped it.
Only now I realise no payment has actually been sent to me, how is it allowed that Amazon wants sellers to ship with no payment yet???
Then the buyer 4 times messages me, “please forward us an invoice” I make an invoice and attach it to the message in Amazon message center. But they keep requesting invoices obviously not reading my messages or seeing the attached invoice.
Any ideas?

PBI is something all sellers are enrolled in, by Amazon.
Basically if the buyer does not pay by day 30 then Amazon guarantee the payment to you, which they will credit you by day 45.
You cannot opt out.
As they have not yet paid then any invoice that you forward should show this…

Yes, ignore their further requests. We occasionally sell books to businesses, often very cheaply. A week or two after receipt they sometimes (quite rightly, because they need one) ask for an invoice. We do exactly what you do.
We once had someone ask for us to post the receipt to them and refused to do so. Another 60p or so postage for a book whose profit margin possibly was not 60p? No, that’s ridiculous when they can print it out straight from the PDF we sent them. It would be fine if they requested the invoice at time of purchase and we could include it in the original mailing, but for some bizarre reason they often don’t. I don’t know why, as they clearly require it.
You have sent them their invoice. They seem not to want to access it.

So from you guys advice I will just leave it now and rely on Amazon to pay me right?
But even if the buyer saw the invoice and paid me (my direct bank transfer details are on the invoice, is that correct?)
How would Amazon know if payment has been sent or not? with the payment happening outside of Amazon…

Sorry if someone has already mentioned it, Im tired, pay by invoice is for Amazon business customers, they get 30 day terms and a credit limit.
If FBA I think Amazon xfer funds immediately, if self fulfilled well I guess you get paid when Amazon receives payment, which could be never if buyer is dishonest,

this is a simple scheme what happens is a business who is short of cash buys something from you and then makes you wait 30 days plus 5 to pay you if they cannot afford to pay you then Amazon does moneys is safe.
On the down side is if you sell say a £100 item and a business orders 10 then you do not see the £1000 for over as month and it can play havoc with your cash flow and imagine if you a 10 business doing the same then you could very soon be in real trouble.
But hay Amazon guarantee the payment so you get the money in the end sorry to say you have no choice in this matter
