Royal Mail returned as ‘not called for’

I sold a book a couple of weeks ago and sent it to the address provided. It was worth £50 so I sent it signed for through Amazon shipping. It’s just been returned to me with the box ticked saying ‘not called for’, which the postman told me means that delivery was refused? The name on address was different to the name of the buyer if that’s relevant.

I have messaged the buyer to explain this but not sure where to go next. If she does want it sent again I will have to spend another £3.90 on sending it, or is there a way to charge her for the extra postage costs?

You have to refund in full, including delivery charges.

Sorry, that is just life with online selling.

If she still wants it she will will have to re-order.

No. It means she was out when the original delivery was attempted and she did not collect from the Sorting Office so the item was returned to you.

You must refund and invite the buyer to reorder.

As Peter says - refund and she must re-order if she wants it.

There is an option for ‘refused delivery’ in the dropdown reasons for refunding an order. I always use that one, refund in full and the reason = refused delivery. 9 times out of 10 you wont ever hear from them again.
If the recipients address was different to the buyers, it’s possible that they didnt collect it from the sorting office because they werent expecting it. If its refused at the door, it is ticked as refused on the sticker put on the parcel before its returned to you.

Either a dropshipper buying from you, or a gift order which the recipient was not expecting.
As advised refund in full and let the buyer reorder if they wish.

Thanks everyone. Haven’t heard back from the buyer but I’ve sent a full refund.

Typical that this has to happen to the most expensive book I’ve sold in the recent dire ‘busy’ period!

It may have been a drop shipper, but IME with these I get asked to not include any paperwork, which didn’t happen with this one.
