Getting Overages because Amazon Buy Shipping Quotes for FedEx Are Wrong

Despite entering the correct weight/dimensions for Amazon Buy Shipping on the order page, I am consistently hit with overages when shipping through FedEx. I do not have this issue when shipping USPS or UPS, only FedEx. This leads me to believe there is something wrong with the rate calculator for FedEx Amazon is using. I doubt anything will be done about this but I'm done shipping via FedEx until Amazon acknowledges the issue. And good luck getting a refund when misquoted - Amazon absolutely refuses to honor the originally displayed quote.

Hi @Seller_0aB1FQZvUD1Aq,

Let me share what I found in the help documentation that might explain what's happening.

According to FedEx shipping services and restrictions, FedEx will weigh and measure packages at their facility and may adjust shipping charges. They'll charge whichever is higher between weight-based and dimension-based rates.

The "Carrier shipping correction charges" help page (link) has some helpful tips to reduce the likelihood of overages:

  • Round up all measurements to the nearest whole number
  • Factor in dimensional weight (FedEx uses a DIM divisor of 139)
  • Double-check all weight and dimension measurements

If you'd prefer to keep using FedEx, you might want to look into connecting your own negotiated FedEx rates. The help page mentions you can do this directly through Seller Central while still keeping the Buy Shipping benefits like A-to-z claim protection.

Hope this helps explain what might be causing the overages!

Hello @Seller_0aB1FQZvUD1Aq. Thanks for sharing that information.

Have you filed a support case with specific examples of what you believe to be incorrect rates charged in Buy Shipping for accurate dimensions/weights entered, with subsequent adjustments?

If you share that Case ID, I can review the details and determine what next steps may be available.
