Starting January 1, 2025, a German regulation, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Single-Use Plastic, will impact your products containing single-use plastic on Amazon.de.

The EPR for Single-Use Plastic regulation aims to promote sustainable waste management and reduce plastic pollution. It requires producers, importers and distributors of single-use plastic products to participate in a system to collect, sort and recycle these products.

To continue to sell products containing single-use plastic on Amazon.de, you are required to comply with the EPR requirements and submit your registration number to Amazon before January 1, 2025. We will deactivate your non-compliant listings after this date.

What do I need to do?

• Step 1 – If you’re a producer established in Germany, register all of your brands in each single-use plastic category with the German Environment Agency's Single-Use Plastics Fund platform (DIVID) to get your registration numbers. If you use drop-shipping or resell single-use plastic products, obtain the registration number(s) from your upstream supplier(s);
• Step 2 – Submit the registration numbers in the Compliance Portal (we will inform you once the portal is live in Q3-Q4 2024);
• Step 3 – Starting 2025, report the types and quantities of single-use plastic products that you sold in Germany to DIVID each year and pay the corresponding levy (eco-fees).

If you are a producer and are not established in Germany, you can already create an account on DIVID and appoint an authorised representative to fulfil single-use plastic requirements for you. Starting August 1, 2024, you can register your brands on DIVID.

We recommend that you register now on DIVID to ensure you can prove your compliance to Amazon when the Compliance Portal is live for single-use plastic products in Q3-Q4 2024.

You can now prove your compliance with EU Batteries Regulation requirements for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) on the Account Health page.

The EU Batteries Regulation aims to enhance the sustainability and safety of batteries by making producers of batteries responsible for take-back, recycling and final disposal. If you sell batteries in the EU, you must provide a registration number for your batteries, or products containing batteries, by August 18, 2025. After that date, Amazon will be legally required to deactivate your non-compliant offers (unless we are able to comply on your behalf, depending on the country). We’ll update you on any further country-specific EU Batteries requirements for EPR as EU member states confirm them.

If you are considered a producer of batteries, complete the following steps to comply with EPR requirements in each country in which you sell batteries.

1. Step 1 - Register with the local authority in Germany, Sweden, and Poland, or through a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) in the Netherlands.
2. Step 2 - Submit your batteries registration numbers via Account Health > Policy Compliance > Regulatory Compliance for Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden. Your submitted battery registration number will be validated within five business days and you’ll see the status on the Account Health page.
3. Step 3 – Starting August 2025, report your annual battery sales and pay eco-contribution fees to the relevant EU authorities or PROs.

If you don’t submit a valid registration number, Amazon will be legally required to deactivate your non-compliant offers in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden, starting from August 18, 2025.

If you sell batteries in Italy, Spain, and Belgium, the authorities are yet to confirm if you’ll be obliged to register on your own or if you can use Amazon’s Pay on Behalfservice for your non-compliant offers (fees apply). We will update you with the latest information on regulation, once issued by the competent authorities. For now, if you’ve already registered with the Italy, Spain, and Belgium authorities or an approved PRO and don’t plan to use Amazon Pay on Behalf, go to Account Health > Manage your compliance > Submit compliance information and submit your batteries registration numbers.

Not a producer?

Obtain registration numbers from your upstream suppliers then follow Step 2 and Step 3 above. When you submit your registration numbers, check the box to confirm you’re not the producer.
