Read onlyhoping someone can help,
ive just got home from visiting my accountant and had a interesting discussion around VAT as I'm about to go VAT registered.
I have purchased a fair few items from Amazon EU (Germany, France, Italy and Spain)
on the invoices it shows the UK vat number but doesn't show a sterling amount, its all shown in Euros.
So I am being charged uk vat on my purchases but wont be able to claim this back as HMRC rules state that VAT must be shown in Sterling £.
does anyone know if there is anyway to get this sorted as currently Amazon EU invoices are not compliant with the uk vat rules. surely if they are charging us VAT it should be broken down clearly on the invoice inline with uk regulations.
This has been bothering me too, somehow we need to show the equivalent. I'm surprised that the forums aren't busier with this subject. It has taken me this long to realise what is occurring.
You reclaim the GBP VAT shown on the invoice on your UK VAT return as any other purchase invoice.
As long as the invoice has a GBP equivalent showing the VAT, it does not matter what currency the invoice is in.
