Can not list -- UPC problem
Hi,
I am getting following error trying to add a product:
“You are using UPCs, EANs, ISBNs, ASINs, or JAN codes that do not match the products you are trying to list. If you believe you have reached this message in error, please contact Seller Support.”
Yes, i did search the forums and found couple of threads, but they do not help me.
- UPC is valid, registered on GS1 (registered by us). I checked to make sure GS1 lists it as valid. It does.
- UPC is not used anywhere else on Amazon.
- I am listing under “Generic” brand for now, so no conflict with any brand.
I did start a case with support, but not holding my breath. By the way, as you go through starting a case, there is an automated tool to check UPC and it says – “no issues”.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rudolf

It can take a couple of days for the codes to filter through from GS1 to amazon, how long ago did you create your GS1 account?
Also just to check as its a common error - you are selecting EAN from the dropdown and not UPS or GTIN.

Thank you for replying,
GS1 account is at least 15 years old.
I am selecting UPC as an identifier as I always did in the past. But I did try to follow your advice and tried to create product with EAN instead – same problem

I had a problem once, it turned out someone had used one of our GS1 codes for some cheap spotty dress in the US so I guess someone is making up barcodes and selling them.

Just an update.
Still waiting for definitive response from SS, but questions they ask do point to the fact Amazon now does some sort of matching between brand/sku/upc

OK,
Confirmed – they are making the link between brand and UPC. Official Amazon reply is at the end of this message.
So, now I have to write a letter from myself to myself, authorising myself to use my own barcodes…
Here is official reply:
We have investigated and were not able to find affiliation between UPC/EAN Owner and the Brand Generic
In order to ensure an enjoyable shopping experience and to protect how brands are presented on Amazon, it is essential that we have accurate data associated with products in our catalogue.
For this reason, we ask that you provide proof of the authenticity of the GTINs you are using via one of the following methods:
We require proof stating that the Brand which you are using is affiliated with the UPC/EAN owner.
This can be in the form of a Copyright, trademark or website that displays your products or brand and its relationship with the UPC/EAN owner. (We only consider official websites owned by the brand, manufacturer or the UPC/EAN owner – the affiliation should be clearly called out.)
OR
A copy of a letter or legal agreement from the manufacturer or brand stating that the UPC/EAN(s) you are using to list this product is valid and owned by them OR that you are allowed to use your own UPC/EAN(s) to sell unique products with their brand.
The letter should establish that there is a relationship between the barcode owner associated with your prefix and the brand. The email or letter must also include the point of contact at the brand or manufacturer that Amazon can contact to verify. This can be found in the footer of the email or indicated in the text.
