Fraud! Money stolen from our Amazon Account

HI, we have had our bank account number changed within our amazon seller account! we only use 1 pc to do our amazon from and it has a firewall, the latest Norton antivirus and amazons 2 step sign in.

they changed the account details back in November and it only became apparent to us at the end of February what had happened!

we have been trying to speak to amazon about this for a full week now and have literally got nowhere. we are absolutely disgusted with how bad they have dealt with this. we have had close to £100k taken over a 3 month period. this is enough to close us down as a business, I haven’t slept in a week worrying about it, and amazon haven’t been in touch once.

I have sent multiple messages to seller support who say its being dealt with .

has anyone else had a problem like this or can you help us with how to get speaking to the right people?

It’s taken you three months to notice £100k coming out your account and into a different bank account?

With such high volumes of sales I assume you have an account manager or at least a contact at Amazon you can reach out to?

The same happened to me last year in October. My main bank account changed. I use the same log on, no-one has access to my computer and I scan my Mac regularly.

I contacted Amazon as I was unable to change my main account. I wasn’t able to change the account without knowing the fraudulent account number and seller support wouldn’t tell me what that was, only the last 3 numbers. Took ages for them to acknowledge it and then change my account and a payment went to this account. They just told me to contact my bank (who weren’t able to help, just said I have never had an account ending with those 3 numbers). They then said a team would look into it and the outcome of this was to tell me that my account is now ok. They didn’t even look into the fraud.

I did get my money back though. I wondered if it was an internal job.

Each time I see a post like this it’s a kick up the backside to check my account settings and that is the next thing I do.

Hi there

They did the same to us , our account been changed .

But it was my fault as i followed a link in my email asking me to confirm my VAT number and then they got my password. Then someone called on my landline business number to say that they are from
amazon sellers department and there is a problem with my account and they will resolve it , but i need to follow what he asked me to do. Then he sent me a link as a sms and asked me to do put there 2 factor verification code and i was so stupid to do it. Then he asked for my iban number , account was changed without my permission. Buy was lucky to spot it on time and took weeks to recover the access and put the correct bank details. Be careful people they read that forum and know a lot . Always check where the money been sent the last 3 digits of the bank acc. Never open a link and Never discuss anything over the phone. Know that from experience.

This may be helpful to people in the future to try and prevent such occurrences. 1) We never talk to ANYBODY on the phone from Amazon. If a call comes in and somebody says its Amazon, we end the call and then email seller support enquiring if we were called and why. This has always worked because 99% of the time there was no further communications meaning it either wasn’t important or was a scam. The other 1% was either somebody trying to flog advertising or something else of that nature. 2) If you have such high amounts of cash in your Amazon account, MANUALLY DISBURSE EVERY 24 HOURS. It might be a pain but it’s a better pain than losing £100K to fraudsters. 3) With that level of loss, it’s a matter for the Police, not just Amazon. And finally 4) Change your computer and start again by adding everything manually. You can run as many scans as you like, sophisticated malware can bury itself without being detectable.

I am really sorry to hear of your problems but I would be to the Police on this one.

How could you possibly not notice that 100K has not arrvied for 2+ months?!!

Payments are made fornight and surely you need funds to purchase stock etc?

Have you called the police? Is your stock insured? Do you have any insurance at all protecting your business from loss?

You have my utmost sympathy we had the same problem, how why, we do not know, it was approx 3.5 k and were fortunate noticed issue within few days.

We were lucky but it took us over 2 months to get a refund (from Amazon) a gentleman called Simon B at Amazon picked up our case. Simon was brilliant rang us every couple of days chasing every department. Even Simon found it difficult to liaising with all departments for sign off. Simon even rang us on Christmas Day due to how his shifts worked

Our account had bank account details changed so when you hit disburse button you don’t know unless you check three digits , but my understanding from Simon even that could be cloned.

  1. React to any notifications on account issues and check your account number. Only go in through seller central
  2. The key failure appears to be when your account is changed no verification takes place (which happens when you open account), the irony before we got our refund is they did verify us again on our account.

For us this could of been avoided by a simple pop up when you disburse first time with new account. "are you sure "

We reported to police and to this day cannot find out why or how as it would of been nice to learn and understand if it was just an Amazon thing or a whole life thing. We changed all our passwords
