I'm being punished for running out of stock. How do I recover?

I’m an FBA seller who’s just been able to restock after roughly 3 months of having no stock in the FC’s. As much as I tried, covid affected every part of the supply chain and shipping prices so this was the earliest I could get my stock manufactured and sent into Amazon.

Now, it appears I am being punished for this. Before this mess, my organic rank had always been high and I always appeared high up the first page for the search term “laundry bags” and “laundry bag”. Now, my product doesn’t appear at all in any of the first 7 pages. Today, for example, I used PPC to gain some sales and get some traction in the hope my organic rank would start to creep up over the course of a few days. The sales gained from this PPC campaign has boosted my sales rank from 250,000 to 21,000 but I still don’t appear organically anywhere at all. Previously my sales rank used to sit around the 20,000 mark and this was enough to ensure I sat high on the first page and never left, this went on for the 8 months after my product first launched until March.

I understand Amazon’s reasoning for this, it makes sense to prioritise the products/sellers who they can rely on to have a constant flow of stock and suppress the ones who don’t. However, going forward I’d just like to know if there’s anything I can do to get out of this hole? Has anyone had any experience of this? I have read stories of peoples products never recovering from this, I’d hate for that to be the case. Any help would be great!

Thanks

You need to rebuild your reputation and improve your supply chain. It’s the only way. Listings are displayed to customers based on relevance rather than keywords and out of stock laundry bags are entirely irrelevant and even more irrelevant after 3 months… Imagine a customer inadvertently buying your product on backorder, waiting three months and then moaning to Amazon about the poor buyer experience because you failed to restock… That’s exactly why your listing doesn’t rank anymore. You need to keep those stock levels up.

They will recover eventually though.

As you were Out of Stock, your BSR damages, it is advisable for restock product initially to work for Organic Sales. As you immediately go for PPC, system recognised your sales based on PPC not Organic, once your stop PPC, your BSR will again affect. SO, concentrate over Organic sales.
