Are journals and notebooks eligible for manufacturer barcodes?

As above. I'm looking to send my first product shipment to Amazon and am unsure of whether my product is eligible for using manufacturer barcodes. I am the brand owner/manufacturer.

The product is a prompt journal which requires the user to complete prompts with their own information so it's not a traditional published book but more of a notebook. I'm not sure whether this falls under the category of media products, i.e. books, which aren't eligible for manufacturer barcodes.

I've already bought a GTIN for the product which I intend to print on the product packaging so would prefer to use that over Amazon barcodes.

Would someone be able to clarify whether I can use my GTIN or if I have to use Amazon barcodes for this product?

Hello @Seller_UmnpH1TVsNx5c, this item sounds like it is a journal and not a media product, so you should be good to go with the GTIN.

To change your account barcode preference, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Fulfillment by Amazon settings.
  2. Scroll down to FBA product barcode preference and click Edit.
  3. Select Manufacturer barcode, then click Update.

Just as an FYI: If it were a media product, you may be able to get an exemption to use the manufacturer barcode by applying with Amazon Brand Registry and enrolling your ASIN in the program.

If you are the manufacturer or the Intellectual Property owner and want to print barcodes directly on the product packaging, you can apply for a GS1 standard UPC barcode.
