Amazon, Stop Scaring Customers with 'Parcel May Be Lost' Messages!

Amazon, why do you keep sending emails to customers warning that their order "may be lost" when it’s simply sent via Royal Mail 2nd Class Letter—which, as you well know, has no tracking?

We buy the labels directly from Amazon, so why isn't that enough? Instead, these unnecessary warnings encourage fraudulent buyers to exploit the system and claim free refunds. The worst part? Many of these cases could be avoided if Amazon stopped undermining its own shipping methods.

When this happens, we’re left dealing with the mess—showing customers the label, hoping they realise their item is still on its way, and then filing Royal Mail compensation claims when necessary.

For context: on our own website, non-delivery rates are about 1 in 2,000 orders. On Amazon? More like 1 in 75. That speaks volumes about the level of buyer abuse happening on this platform.

Amazon, it’s time to fix your system instead of making it easier for scammers to exploit honest sellers.

Several threads already about this issue, and I myself have tagged forum mods to request that this practice of sending these emails be stopped - though to be honest, I have very little hope that anything will be done. All it does is encourage customers to make fraudulent claims.

Just to highlight how peculiar fraudulent claims are to Amazon.

The book trade is noted for its lack of INRs; I haven't had one on any of the multiple sites I sell through except Amazon since 2022, one to Taiwan, the other Bulgaria, both of which I got back because of undeliverable addresses.

Hadn't had an Amazon one in years until I started to use Buy Shipping, then they started. I've since started to use Tracked 24/48 and they've gone away again.

They are not scaring customers though, they are scaring sellers. For some customers it's a great opportunity to get something for free.

Rather than scaring them, I believe it thrills many of them with delight and a sense of joy as they then see the item as a free gift. Probably why Amazon continues to send the messages. The person then probably tells family and friends about his good luck on Amazon encouraging more sales.

Unfortunately when people who have no knowledge of selling or logistics make decisions in Amazon there are issues, this being one of thousands, they have no comprehension of the mayhem that this causes and worse they do not care or have any knowledge of what this statement means or does.

I have had many of my own orders that have been delivered to me and then the order is updated with 'may be lost' I could request a refund and keep the item if I was dishonest and that is exactly what is happening with this.

Let the seller deal with this via messages and let the buyer wait a few days and if it is then not delivered you can refund the sale and if it is delivered the buyer may contact you and pay again, but giving false information to buyers based on nothing is unacceptable.

Oddly enough, I've had a few 'customer enquiry' emails lately simply confirming that they have received their orders.

These messages came out of the blue with no prior communication.

I guess they must be responding to those 'may be lost' messages from Amazon... :/

Here's a suggestion, why don't we all just keep sending emails to the MD until some action is taken? Sick to death of this i am, constantly replying to customers who keep trying it on.

9 times out of 10 Royal Mail does scan these (if you buy your postage through Amazon they will also cover you) and you can check online where they are.

Over Christmas we had over 20 customers try claim item hadn't arrived. We sent them proof it had (the Royal Mail website even gives you a map of where it was left). Screen shoot the page and send it to the customer.

Every single one of them mysteriously didn't contact us again.
