Quick Tip: How to Fix Error Code 5665 on Amazon
Got hit with error code 5665 while creating a new ASIN on Amazon? No worries, here's a guide to get you back on track:
You're trying to list a product with a brand attribute not approved by Amazon. Here's how to fix it:
- Submit a brand name approval application.
- Include real-world images of your product and packaging.
- Ensure your requested brand name matches the listing exactly.
- Provide the batch ID of the Inventory File Process report.
Important Reminders:
- Stick to the exact brand name you want on the detail page.
- Use non-computer-generated images of your product.
- Your seller account name isn't a valid brand unless it's on the product or packaging.
FAQs for Quick Reference:
Non-Branded/Generic Product? Use "Generic" as the brand value.
Multiple Brands or Compatibility? Follow the manufacturer's guidelines.
Certified Refurbished? Stick to the original product's brand value.
Remember, if in doubt, consult Amazon brand name policy; Error code 5665 and approval requirements and Seller University.
Happy selling!

And what happens if the Brand attribute is correct, the GTIN/EAN is correct, the description and pictures are correct (pictures showing the right Branding) - but when trying to add an offer against it I get told I need authorisation from a totally different invalid brand (the name begins with a $ sign which is NOT valid).
Opening cases with Support and I just get told I need to send authorisation from this invalid brand (which is impossible as it does not exist and is wrong anyway) and I get no further.

How timely. I got one of these yesterday.
I'm trying to edit - just edit - a listing for our product, which has been active since 2018. We are the brand owners and the only sellers. The brand has been in Brand Registry since 2018.
It is impossible to get SS to understand that it is not a new listing, that we are not random sellers adding an existing product, that it is our product, and that we own the brand. Literally going round in circles.
Is SS just bots randomly answering? Are are the humans so completely disinterested? How can anyone be this obtuse.
As with everything Amazon, we always end up having to find a work around ourselves.

Its more likely they are paid according to how many replies they send and have to adhere to their own metrics in number of replies per day - so not reading previous messages, or picking up the odd word then copy/pasting something irrelevant means they fulfil their quota.
I opened a case months ago which is still unresolved. About once a week I will get 2 or 3 replies on the same day all saying they have asked the relevant department to look into the matter further. Then nothing for another week or so, then again several replies all on same day (often from different people). Seems like every so often the case jumps to top of pile, several support people pick it up at same time, all reply with usual nonsense just to get if off the board, so it goes to bottom to rise up again a week later,

Please look at Case ID 9612687302 to see how ineffective and frustrating Seller Support is.

I like that you close with "Happy Selling!"
I think its safe to say that we're selling, but few of us are actually happy.....

Hmm to be honest no. As I now only sell on the UK site I did not think to check the ASIN on the other sites to see what the Brand attribute was set to. But why is Amazon not updating Brand attribute on all sites and how would it get to be different?
But its a good idea to check.

@Ezra_Amazon Are you out there? Why make a post and then disappear?
In case any mods look:

Now on the 9th reply with the same senseless questions being asked repeatedly.
I am now going to run an experiment and see if anyone resolves this and how long it takes. Could take years ...

This is great advice but the whole process is totally flawed.
Once you submit your application there are then endless emails backwards and forwards between ourselves and seller support asking the same information multiple times. You are then likely to get denied and have to go back and point out why you shouldn't be denied.
The whole process is awful, very time consuming and needs to be reviewed by someone senior at Amazon
I have one that has been denied recently and I have given all of the evidence and I have no idea why it is denied. Seller support give me meaningless answers. They even advised to list it as Generic if I can't get approval to list the brand which is totally the wrong answer.
